Another Viet satellite TV station?
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008
Just got a second source to confirm that Little Saigon Radio, the most popular Vietnamese-language program in Orange County, is planning on a 24-hour Vietnamese TV station.
The TV program, tentatively named ”Hon Viet“ (Vietnamese Soul) will be transmitted by satellite, most likely DirecTV. Little Saigon Radio is already on DirecTV, audio only.
There are currently two Viet TV programs on DirecTV, SBTN and Viet Hai Ngoai (VHN). Not to mention the commie station fed from Vietnam, VTV4.
Little Saigon Radio has a competitive advantage to both SBTN and VHN: Being a later-comer, Hon Viet would benefit from the already existing Vietnamese-American DirecTV subscriber base. In addition, whereas the ad sales forces for SBTN and VHN are basically centered in Orange County, Little Saigon Radio also has a sizable, functioning and productive sales force in Houston, Texas - the 2nd largest Vietnamese-American enclave.
This news has been spreading around Little Saigon for a while, coming even from employees of LSR. But it’s only now that the Bolsavik confirmed with reasonably high-ranking people. Both sources declined to be named and agreed only to be identified as “close to the management and Board of Little Saigon Radio.”
