Elderly Vietnamese-American woman killed at home

A 72-year-old Vietnamese-American woman was killed in her home in Pennsauken, New Jersey on Monday.

This is the second time murder has stricken the family: The victim Ty Nguyen‘s son and his wife had been murdered in a robbery in Camden in 1995. She had been raising her grandchildren, waiting for them to grow up and finish school, and she was about to go back to live in Vietnam.

Family members suspect robbers who knew Ty Nguyen kept cash at home. Excerpts from WCAU’s report:

Friends and relatives said Ty Nguyen would open up her home to anyone who needed help. She lived in the home along with her two grandchildren and three tenants.

The 72-year-old was beaten to death in her kitchen. Police said it was done with a heavy object.

Relatives and friends said Nguyen survived the Vietnam War, came to this country and let fellow Vietnamese immigrants stay at her home while they got on their feet.

“She’s nice. She’s so sweet with people. She’s so sweet,” one woman said.

Family members suspected that Ty Nguyen was killed by someone she knew.
