Im memoriam of little child

A Vietnamese-American first-grader was killed in a Grand Rapids, Michigan auto accident caused by a habitual drunk driver.

The fatal head-on collision occurred as Andy Nguyen, 6 years old (pictured), was coming home from a trip to the mall with seven children from three families on Saturday afternoon. The Grand Rapids Press reported here:

“As the friends were on their way home around 8 p.m., a Toyota Corolla driven by the Comstock Park man … sideswiped another eastbound vehicle, police said. It then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the Toyota Camry driven by Phi Kim Vo, 18, police said.”

Vo, a senior at Kelloggsville High School and a member of its tennis team, was still in critical condition on Monday March 31. Her two brothers, ages 6 and 13, Andy’s brother age 7, and a friend age 13, were treated at local hospitals and released. Andy died the day after the crash.

Andy’s sister Jenny Nguyen, 9, was in serious condition but was upgraded to fair, reported WOOD-TV here.

Jenny still didn’t know her brother had died. “When they were pushing her by the gift shop, she wanted to get something for her little brother,” reported the Grand Rapids Press.

The man who caused the accident was taken to the hopsital. Police said they would arrest the man when he is released from the hospital.

According to police, the 29-year-old driver from Comstock Park, Michigan, “has two previous convictions for drunken driving, Secretary of State records showed. He did not have a valid license, and was driving another person’s vehicle.”

The hardest part is asking for help....
