Janet’s secret deal with Van Tran’s godfather?

The OC Weekly just published a story by Scott Moxley explaining exactly why the boss of the boss, the power behind Van Tran‘s power, is so silent in the Dina vs. Janet race.

Mike Schroeder (pictured) is a high-priced, high-octane lawyer and former state chairman of the GOP. He took Van Thai Tran under his wing, guided him up the Republican ladder. When it came time for Trannie Trung Nguyen to run for supervisor, Schroeder was the force that drove his lawsuits-upon-lawsuits against Janet Nguyen after Trung lost the last election.

And then, all of a sudden, Schroeder went silent and stopped attacking Janet.

What gives?

According to Moxley in his story here, Schroeder promised to shut up in exchange for Janet voting for Jack Anderson to be the interim sheriff of Orange County.

You see, the former sheriff Mike Carona is another protege of Schoeder’s, and Schroeder needed some of his sheriff department privilege continued under the interim sheriff, and Janet’s tie-breaking vote provided that.

The Bolsavik has a weakness, and that is he tends to believe things Moxley says about the sheriff department. Even under the secretive and paranoid Carona, Moxley has always been able to get information from there.

By the way, another Schroeder protege is OC District Attorney Mike Rackauckas, who appointed Schoeder’s wife Susan Kang Schroeder the DDA in charge of media relations.

Janet Nguyen was in complete silence while other Supervisors (1 p ) were thinking out loud whether the Sherrif should resign after the indictment .This didn’t come as a surprise at all.

    Bolsavik:

There’s a problem with the “tie-breaking vote” claim. There was no 2-2 tie break.

There were only three Supes at that meeting (Bates had a car accident and Campbell was out of town). Secondly, this thesis assumes the Supes name the Acting Sheriff.

  3. R. Scott Moxley says:

Thanks Jubal/Matt for pointing out my error. I should have written “alliance” instead of “vote.” I do, however, take issue with your second point regard the alleged “thesis” assumption. Yes, Mike Carona named Jack Anderson as acting sheriff before his resignation to fight FBI corruption charges. But the board could have ended that move almost immediately in January. Instead–just a Mike Schroeder wished (hey, now we’re back to the real thesis!)–the board, with pivotal help from Janet Nguyen, left Anderson in the role for half a year.
