You know what happens when you keep throwing stones at somebody? Sooner or later they will toss some at your glass house.
In the case of Assemblyman Van Thai Tran and his underlings accusing Supervisor Janet Nguyen of being a commie, and with the absentee balloting already going on, the tit (the one that’s for the tat — get your mind out of the gutter) was sooner rather than later.
The Bolsavik received in his email something that appears to be Janet’s mailer, front and back. And it accuses Van Tran’s gang of the exact same thing they accused her. (Of course.)
The front of the mailer shows Janet at several protests against communist Vietnam, lobbying U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer for the Vietnam Human Rights Act, and asks “Where was Dina?”
Which is a fair question, because Janet’s challenger Dina Nguyen (as pictured right; click to see whole mailer) is extremely new to the community and to politics, and unlike the savvy Van Tran, didn’t show up at events unless somebody (usually Van or Westminster City Councilman Andy Quach) drags her there.
By the way, if you did click on the picture and find the mailer, the group picture at the bottom was part of the Trannies’ newspaper ad of a “unity ticket” for last November’s election. Second from right in that photo is congressional candidate Tan Nguyen.
The Bolsavik already posted about Janet’s capitalizing on Dina’s slip of the tongue, something for which Dina already gave an explanation.
The best part of the mailer, though, has to do not with Dina but with her two red-baiting allies: Garden Grove School Board member Lan Quoc Nguyen, and Van Tran himself.
Van Tran is tainted with the same Eric Le that the Trannies are tainting Janet with. They had accused Janet Nguyen of chumming with the president of an organization promoting trade with Vietnam. Janet’s camp hit back and accused Van Tran of chumming with the same Eric Le, that the two had been together numerous times.
As for Lan Quoc Nguyen (pictured), at the time President Triet visited Orange County, the BBC quoted Lan as saying the Vietnamese-American community ought to sit down with the communist government and see how Vietnamese-Americans could contribute to the development of the country. To some, that may sound innocent enough. Others, however, would react to such a position the same way the George W. Bush reacted to Barack Obama‘s suggestion to sit down with Hamas.
By the way, if you’re wondering: Yes Lan Quoc Nguyen is still on the radio, accompanied by former candidate turned serial litigant Trung Nguyen, ragging on the Janet camp for being commies.
One Viet-owned business got caught in its own success. The Ramada Inn on Garden Grove Boulevard has long been the favorite for visitors from Vietnam because of its friendly and Vietnamese-speaking staff. Now the hotel, which together with its part owners and managers contributed $2,100 to Dina Nguyen and $3,600 to Hoa Van Tran, stands accused as “the place communist delegations stay.”
The attack on the hotel appears to also be a dig at Hoa Van Tran’s patron, former campaign treasurer, and part-owner of the hotel Phu Do Nguyen, even though Phu’s share of the ownership is small, and his name was not mentioned in the mailer. It’s the same hotel where Hoa’s campaign manager Edgardo Reynoso allegedly received comp stays — which if true would constitute an in-kind contribution for which the Hao campaign illegally failed to disclose.
Now that you’ve heard all this, you may be asking:
Is Van Tran’s red-baiting pettier, or is Janet’s?
Well, maybe you would be asking such questions.
Some elements in the Viet community, however, take all this very seriously.

Yes I like the old theme better too.
However, when I switched over to this new host with new version of WordPress application, I found out that the old theme doesn’t work with the new software.
The new software is more powerful and therefore requires more of the themes, and my old one (apparently written by a grad student somewhere) doesn’t have all the elements required. I’m still working on getting around it.
