The Endorsement Committee of the OC Republican Party voted unanimously to endorse Trung Nguyen for Garden Grove City Council, reports Red County/OC Blog’s Jubal here.
His opponent Andrew Do, OC Supervisor Janet Nguyen‘s chief of staff, lost the endorsement apparently because he only recently moved to Garden Grove from Santa Ana, and briefly switched his registration to the Democratic party before returning to the GOP in 2005. Both of these facts were exploited by Endorsement Committee Chairman Kermit Marsh in formulating his questions.
This must be very welcome news for the once dignified Garden Grove School Board member, who had been reduced to scraping for support by engaging in red-baiting protests against such things as a Macy’s belt buckle and other assorted sundries.
This is also the first time the OC GOP smiles upon Trung since he lost the election for the Central Committee in 2006, coming in 7th in a field of 12 for a race that takes the top 6.
Apparently, the OC GOP has forgiven the Trannies for lashing out at it as racist. Or at least they’re not holding Trung responsible for the rantings of Van Tran’s PR man who is, after all, running Van’s errands, not Trung’s.
New elections, blank slates, new rules, start over.
This will be one interesting race to watch.
Does anyone know if there were any other Republican candidates seeking the endorsement besides these two?

If Andrew ran for the city council in Santa Ana then he would have received more support from everyone. Food for thought.
When OC GOP decided to call Andrew Do a sort of “carpet bagger”, this is a major embarrassement to our community.
Since we have many Viets running in this year’s November election I hope our voters are wise enough to discover good leadership materials to represent Bolsa town and people.
I agree with Kermit Marsh, Andrew Do still maintains his residency in Santa Ana where his wife still prefers call it a home. Do is renting a room in Gargen Grove since July only to see if he is electable to the Garden Grove Council in this election. I think this was a premature decision on Do’s part.

Trung Nguyen has spent more time is destructive politics than he has in stating his case. He got the GOP nod because he is the favorite “son” of Shroeder who still weilds a lot of power at the central committee as does Kermit Marsh. Marsh is on the Board of the Central Committee. I don’t like that candidates change locations like they change clothes just to run for an office. I was particularly bored and offended when Hillary Clinton, who did not life in New York, but in Washington D.C. or/and Arkansas ran and took the office of Senator from New York. If the republicans tolerated that carpetbagging act then the Do move shouldn’t be a big deal.
I would rather someone with some dedication to Garden Grove run for City Council there. I would oppose someone from another district going to the Republic convention as a representative from yet another district as in the case of Truong Diep. He’s going to the Republican Convention representing a district he doesn’t even live in. This is a similar situation.

I was pleased Garden Grove School Board Member Trung Nguyen received the recommendation of the early endorsement committee for his hard work and dedication to low taxes and efficient government and his proven record of fiscal responsibility on the GG School Board.
Apparently the board had some real concerns about another applicant for Garden Grove Council, Andrew Do. When asked by the committee chairman, Westminster City Councilman Kermit Marsh, how long he had lived in the city, it was revealed that Do had moved to Garden Grove only 2 days before the filing deadline for city council. Do’s total residency of slightly over a month set off a series of questions from the committee that revealed Do had changed his political party back and forth in his efforts to land jobs.
Committee member and former OC Superior Court candidate Nancy Padberg, took offense to Do referring to himself as a former DA when in fact Do was only a Deputy DA. She also asked if he had ever done any political volunteering for someone he did not eventually receive a job from. Do responded that he had never volunteered for any campaign that he did not receive a job from, he still had not sold his North Tustin/Santa Ana home and that he was only a deputy DA.
Trung Nguyen was supported by all of the committee members present. Andrew Do and Charles Mitchell received no votes in support. The committee pointed out how long Trung has worked for our local candidates, registered voters and led by example as an elected official.
Since 2000, he worked in support of many campaign including McCain 2000, Bill Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michelle Steele, even Janet Nguyen (2004).
On Former Assemblywoman and current California Senior Services Director Lynn Daucher’s campaign, Trung Nguyen worked day and night, he supported Mitt Romney, and is serving as an alternate delegate for Sen. McCain 2008.
He also works daily with and in support of Assemblyman Van Tran (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008) plus I have worked diligently for registration drives from 1999 until present.
It is because of the efforts of his, Assemblyman Tran and several other Viet electeds, that we now have such a strong voice in Central Orange County.
Committee members were already convinced by the time Trung Nguyen started talking about how his campaign revolves around cracking down on crime and graffiti, spending city dollars efficiently and never raising taxes.

American Woman, Truong Diep is attending the convention as a supporter of GOP presumed candidate McCain and all OC republicans are supportive of his representation.
Trung has been a GG school district board member for many years serving his contituents deligently and Do has nothing but his Santa Ana address to show to Garden Grove voters. These two GG city council candidates’ credentials are miles apart!
Andrew Do made a great political mistake by earning the title of “carpet bagger” in this race. Many likely voters are not fond of stranger representing their city.
Andrew also made a bad impression with GOP when it was discovered that he was flip flopping with his party affiliations and people believe he is really a Democrat in the closet!

In GG race, I am supporting the favored candidate Trung Nguyen.
Trung Nguyen showed what he is all about when he lost to Janet Nguyen. His lawyer accused her of being a poor loser. Then He takes it all the way the the supreme court. Total waste of everyones time and money and respect lost. He will naever have respect again. (not that he ever had any) Who cares a bunch of Vietnamese voted for him, I do’nt. Unlike you I would vote for a vietnamese candidate if I thought they would do the best job. You and others pressure these viet candidates to “watch you’re backs” once in office. This whole absurdity that Van Tran started will self-destruct as more of these Van Tran clones true selves comes out….as Trungs true useless self has shown itself.
