‘Recall Madison Nguyen’ group raking it in, but less than Madison

Thursday was the deadline for both the Recall Madison Nguyen Committee and the No Recall of Madison Nguyen committee to file their financial disclosures for the period through June 30.

The recall side filed their papers a day early, and filed online, so the electronic copy is already available on the San Jose City Clerk’s web site here. The No Recall committee have been filing paper copies, so it may take a while to be posted on the web.

The recall side’s filing gives a definite impression of a lot of grassroot support. It shows $42,882 in contributions received, of which a whopping $28,742 came from non-itemized contributions of less than $100. If the numbers are correct, it means close to 300 small contributors.

Of the itemized contributions totalling $14,140, most come from people putting in $100 each, and just a handful of contributions over $500 — including $1,200 from a pharmacy, $700 from Sammy Castillo a truck driver, and $600 from a finance company.

Broad-based though the recall support may be, the total dollar amount raised could not compete with Madison’s money. She’s got $103,000+, more than double their amount.

The form filed by the Recall side was signed by someone who’s not a professional campaign treasurer. It was, nonetheless, head and shoulder more professional than the pieces of crap filed by Orange County supervisorial candidate Hoa Van Tran (read here, herehere, here). Unlike the filings by Hoa, the Recall campaign’s filing listed very clearly every non-monetary contributions received and expenses paid, including such things as ad discount and meal for campaign workers — things conspicuously absent in Hoa Van Tran’s filings.

For that matter, even though that election is done and over with, the candidates are still required to file another quarterly statement next month. Something akin to a closing filing.

Perhaps some competency will creep in and we’ll see full disclosure of the non-monetary benefits that the Hoa Van Tran campaign received. Or refunds made to bring the contributions by VHN-TV down to the legal limit.

But the Bolsavik is digressing. The point is, if this is the kind of money that the Recall group is bringing in, then the opposition to the councilwoman is more widespread than is assumed. The professionalism shown in the filing also appears to show that the campaign is not just comprised of an angry mob as generally thought.

  1. Tien Huynh says:

The LS leadership consists of many professionals such as attorneys, professors, teachers, engineers, PhD holders (from UC to correspondence schools), pharmacists, dentists, physicians, physicist, writers, reporters, etc., who really hate the Viet communists. These leaders are intelligent on the personal level, but collectively, they lack wisdom and morality. They are so selfish, egocentric, and do not have any concept of dignity. Currently, they are leading the ordinary refugees to participate in a campaign against the local ELECTED OFFICIALS without considering whether they ALIENATE the GENERAL PUBLIC. In the name of anti-communist, these leaders are actually serving the communist’s interest of dividing the Viet refugee communities. I just wish that these leaders understand the painful reminder from the late author Hoa`ng Va(n Chi’, “If we (the Vietnamese people) adhered to morality, neither the French nor the communist would be able to dominate us.”

Tien, communism is only good for very few…the ruling class!

Having said that, we must defend our freedom with good moral ethics and unselfishness based on respect ……first stemming from our own family structure.
