Paul Lucas, the candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party of OC for the Garden Grove City Council, last night sent out an email to the DPOC executive board, asking them to also endorse Linh Ho (pictured).
The election is for two seats on the Garden Grove City Council, one vacant and another being held by incumbent Steve Jones, a favorite of (some) developers. Last month the DPOC met and was able to agree on only one candidate, and that was Lucas. Apparently today they’re looking to endorse the remaining slot and two people want it: Ho and Robin Marcario.
Considering that last time Lucas got in the middle of other people’s politicking, it backfired horribly, most of all on himself, this time he includes this disclaimer:
To be sure that there is no confusion, I have not been compelled or pressured to make this plea to you. I am doing this of my own accord with no influence from anyone or any group. I am asking you to vote to endorse candidate Linh Ho for the City of garden Grove race in order to have a full ticket of endorsed candidates and also in the hope of securing some sense of unity and solidarity among the Democratic Party of Orange County.
Following is the full text of Lucas’ email:
Dear Central Committee members,
Last month there was a special meeting to endorse non-partisan candidates. In the city of Garden Grove, there were two seats available and three candidates. Unfortunately there was only one candidate who reached the required 60% of votes to secure an endorsement. That candidate was me. And I thank you for your support.
The DPOC E-Board has called for a special endorsement vote that will take place this coming Monday evening at the Carpenters hall in Orange at the regular monthly meeting of the DPOC.
I am asking that you support and vote to endorse candidate Linh Ho for the DPOC endorsement. I believe that it is important that a second endorsement be made to fill the ticket for this race. I also believe that the most viable candidate to endorse isLinh Ho.

To be even clearer about this action, I wanted to bring some sort of peace in the family at the DPOC. It’s no secret that tensions have run high over the last few months between myself and only a few members of the DPOC. This has caused a great rift among the membership of an organization I have been involved in for years as an activist.
I have always believed that you must be the change you seek. That being said, I want there to be minimal infighting and tension over this endorsement for the second seat.

Tonight the DPOC voted by voice vote to endorse Linh Ho for the second seat on the GG City Council.
And a correction in your post. I did not send an email to just the E Board of the DPOC, I sent that email out to the entire body of the DPOC Central Committee.

Many of the local DPOC activists have been behaving just like the Main Street and Moran street protestors. So I have been speaking up and fighting against that type of lynch mob mentality. And Art Pedroza is their pie eyed piper who fans the flames with his hyperbole filled posts.
That Protest at Tony Lams restaurant was a long time ago. I think it stemmed from the protest at the video store where the owner displayed a banner with Ho Chi Minh on it.
The Vietnamese Community has really gotten tired of the knee jerk type of protests. In fact, I talked to many of the protestors who were on Main Street and the funny thing was that a large portion of them were not even residents of either Westminster or GG.
That extended protest really cost Hung Nguyen a lot of face in the community. Andin the end that was a major reason for him to work to stop the protest. The really odd thing was that the City gave him and Peter Katz an award for helping put a stop to the protests. That didnt make any sense to me at all. The organizer of the protests got a certificate of appreciation for stopping the protest. That didn’t make any sense at all to me.
Almost all of the Community Actions by these organizers with the exception of the upheaval over the prospect of a casino in Garden Grove are over issues in the Vietnamese Community itself. And at the root of them, are just contests between personalities and egos.
That’s the feedback I keep getting from community members. The younger generation of Viets who are born here can’t stand these protests, the protestors, or their organizers. In time, they will go the way of the Dodo.
That being said, the city Council members tried to find a way to shut down the protests on Main Street even going as far as using a meter to measure the sound level they make to keep them within code at the Bain of being shut down for the day. But the outright stopping of the protests was found to be unconstitutional due to the first amendment. Which is the height of irony since they were protesting a newspaper over their content.
That whole ball of wax is a tangled web of craziness that no one can unwind except for the Vietnamese Community itself. That being said, I believe it will take a Vietnamese leader to make these guys go away.
Just as it was Van Tran who whipped the crowd into a frenzy over the display of Ho Chi Minh in his video store. And then rode that wave of fame into GG City Council, it will take another leader to make them stop. If you remember, it was the fact that that video store owner was selling bootlegged videos that got him shut down. Not the protestors.
And now, if you read the thread above, many of the local DPOC activists are behaving just like the protestors on Main Street and Moran Street. And Art Pedroza is fanning the flames with his hyperbolic posts just like any good pie eyed piper would do. The only problem is that the DPOC activists are dancing to his tune just like zombies.
