Andrew Do’s own Photoshop job?

The Bolsavik was pointed (by a third-party) to this blog entry by the L.A. Times’ Dana Parsons.

Apparently, in a mailer (that the Bolsavik doesn’t have; sorry), Garden Grove City Council candidate Andrew Do was pointing out his rival Trung Nguyen‘s character flaws and drew attention to Trung’s infamous Photoshop job.

To bolster his case, the mailer displays a newspaper story entitled “O.C. Candidate Has Serious Image Problem.” The newspaper story is shown under an OC Register masthead.

Unfortunately, as Parsons points out, that bad pun belongs to the L.A. Times, not the Register. It has been noted by many observers, from both ends of the political spectrum, that the Register was conspicuously silent in the whole Photoshop scandal.

Writes Parsons:

Is it possible that Do attached our story to the Register’s banner because it has a wider reach in Orange County? A bit misleading, perhaps? A doctored mock-up of the story?

No way, Do told me. “I’ve got to talk to my consultant. If that got mixed up, I apologize. The design guy must have gotten it mixed up.”

He said his consultant is in Northern California and probably isn’t hip to which paper has the larger circulation in Orange County.

On behalf of The Times, apology accepted.

A teaching from Confucius is appropriate here, “Ha`m huyee’t phu’n nhaan, tieen oo tu*. khaa?u” (Ngaa.m ma’u phun ngu*o*`i, tru*o*’c do* miee.ng mi`nh). I am at a loss to translate this phrase into English. Will the wise Bolsavik or someone please translate this phrase into English so that Mr. Do can understand a little bit about his lost Vienamese culture?

  2. Fact Checker says:

Andrew Do is being investigated by the Ethics Committee of the Orange County Republican Party right now for misleading the voters of Garden Grove that he has the Party’s endorsement, when in fact, he never had.

Does anyone see a pattern yet?

  3. Bolsavik says:

@Fact Checker: I’m not aware of that. He does have the endorsement of the California Republican Assembly and the Lincoln Club.

Which, in a lot of ways, is better than getting the endorsement from the OCGOP – but that’s just my take on things. Obviously, others – those who got endorsement from OCGOP but not from the Lincoln Club or the CRA – will differ.

  4. Fact Checker says:

    Boklsavik,

Obviously you’re not a Republican and you don’t know the real benefits that come with an official Party endorsement. Just call Scott Baugh and he’ll spell them out for you. They’re not opinions, either. Real benefits.

As for other affiliated groups like the CRA and Lincoln Clubs, they are nice to have but they’re not the official stamp of the Party.

The Party is investigating Andrew Do right now, through the Ethics Committee. Scott Baugh, as Chairman of the Party, is on top of, and all over this.

  5. Jung Kim says:

Andrew Do’s CRA endorsement was largely flawed from the beginning! Janet’s sister and her appointees dominate the roster of this tiny GG CRA chapter.

I was surprised Trung was also endorsed by this same CRA group.

I think Andrew Do is better qualified as a head chef of his deli restaurant.

  6. Jung Kim says:

Lincoln Club was forced to endorse Do due to Janet’s foul odor pressure and basically it’s meaningless in this race!

Andrew has done nothing to serve GG residents in the past and he doesn’t belong in this city’s election ……….other than self serving, polluted interest from power hungry Janet.

  7. Bolsavik says:

    @Fact Checker:

Hahahah. Let me amend what I said:

Others – those who got endorsement from OCGOP but not from the Lincoln Club or the CRA, OR those who are the head of OCGOP – will differ.

The GOP is not the Communist Party. “Official stamp of the Party” doesn’t mean a lot in a free country. Ask Lieberman.

  8. Jung Kim says:

Bolsavik, then why do all republican candidates seek for GOP endorsements?

Anyway, hard working Trung has the most supporters in this GG council campaign.

I for one, will vote for Trung!

  9. Fact Checker says:

    Bolsavik,

You again miss the point … only by a few miles this time.

I ask that you call Chairman Scott Baugh, for your own dilligence, what an official GOP endorsemnt brings to the table so that he can explain it to you.

You should know better than to red-bait other people by bringing in the Commie Party. But again, your handle is Bolsavik.

  10. JB says:

It appears from what I have heard and read that Trung Nguyen and Steve Jones are the two candidates likely to win in the Garden Grove City Council race.

But again, like the presidential race, much will depend on voter turn-out on election day and who actually completes and returns the mail-in ballots by the November 4th deadline.

    We shall see.

  11. Zapped says:

    Hot News:

The Orange County Republican Party just handed down a decision, after an investigative hearing by it’s Ethics Committee last evening, to REPRIMAND Andrew Do for misleading the voters with his (lack of) endorsement by the OC GOP. So much for Do’s sanctimonious ethics.

  12. LOL! Yes blame Do for the slater mailers fault…. LOl You guys are grasping at straws. This prob helps Do anyway with the voter fatigue with republicans anyway!!!!

  13. why isnt.... says:

Why hasnt this been covered by the OC Register or total buzz?

  14. Jung Kim says:

Andrew Do is above the law and the ethics.

He doesn’t reside in the city..but runs for the city office .
He has been rejected by the OC GOP endorsement committee….but uses GOP’s name in the endorsement list…. we need to get rid of this idiot now!
