Don’t know if any inhaling is involved here, but Joseph Dovinh was heard on radio boasting that he got more votes than any Viets except Assemblyman Van Tran.
The amazin’ claim was heard on late-night Vietnamese radio hosted by Van Tran’s representative Hung Phuong Nguyen. That’s Dovinh to the left and Nguyen to the right, in the photo, taken at Dina Nguyen‘s campaign headquarters in June.
Dovinh thanked the Viet community for its support and for giving him, said he, ”more votes than all Viet candidates” other than Van Tran, making him the second-best vote getter.
Say what?
How does a second-best vote getter get pummeled as the sole Viet candidate in tiny 64-precinct smack-dab-where-all-Viet-voters-live Midway City Sanitation District?
How does a second-best vote getter get door-matted in the Coast Community College District by worse than 20-to-80?
How, you asked?
By double-counting the votes — as it turns out. As Dovinh explained on radio, he was adding up the votes he got in the two separate races.
If you run in two races and want to know how many votes you get, you add the two, right? Every kindergartner knows that!
It’s such a relief voters didn’t put this overgrown kindergartner on the Coast college board.

“Unlike the power base in Orange County’s Little Saigon, from which Vietnamese city, county and state politicians have emerged by targeting voting blocs in their own immigrant community, in Irvine’s multicultural stew, candidates have succeeded only by courting other Asians, Persians and whites — still the largest group of Irvine residents.”

I believe the Democrats have had a stronghold on the Irvine City Council for the past 10 years or so, precisely because they recognized early on the demographic change in the city, and directed the city to be more inclusive and cater to all the ethnic groups in the city. The ethnic vote in Irvine was the swing vote for Sukhee Kang in the mayor slot.
Most Viet politicians in Little Saigon are divisive, fighting with each other and even pitting the community against the Latino community. It’s a shame.
THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU’RE HANGING AROUND WITH ding dong dina
Bolsavik,
On behalf of kindergartners everywhere, your reference to our people was offensive.
Not only can we add and subtract, but we can also spell our last names.
Please apologize.
TLC, get over with Dina……. she is good person.
HAHAHA JUNG KIM, ANDREW IS UP.
I was the first one to say that Do “may” overtake Marcario when all the votes are counted …
Perhaps culturally, every Viet always want to have some fame to satisfy his/her ego. (Dda~ la`m trai soo’ng trong tro*`i ddaa’t, pha?i co’ danh gi` vo*’i nu’i soong! – Nguyee~n Coong Tru*’). So it’s understandable that the least vote getter now becomes the second best vote getter!
For 150K, Andrew better “gets up”. Even second best with a lot of debt and money spent is better.
@ jung kim,
I’M SURE EVERYONE & I ARE OVER WITH dina . . . IT’S YOUR TURN NOW . . DON’T you THINK IT’S ABOUT TIME you SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT KIND OF PERSON she REALLY IS OR you’re STILL NAIVE LIKE THIS MORON do vinh ?
Joseph Dovinh has just past Vivian Kirkpatrick-Pilger in Midway City Sanitary District race. He now has totally 43,130 votes in Orange County. If he runs in the 69 th Assembly District against Jose Solorio, he would become the second Vietnamese state assemblymember in California. Don’t know why he didn’t do that.
Did Dovinh get the best of you, Hao Nhien? He’s definitely killing somebody with his “boast”. Maybe you’ll need to graduate from pre-school if you want to challenge him in kindergarten!
Notice: TLC can’t think so most of the time she/he/it is calling people names. Up to no good! That’s not what blog is for. Stick to the subject and stop trying to get other people into the Dovinh conversation.

Hey, Martin :
You never know DoVinh is a commie . He had stayed in VN and deal with VC leaders in almost 2 years from 1997-1998 but was taken over by nephew of Commie Leaders. He set up Vietweekly after back to Little Saigon. You known, Vietweekly go a lot of deals from VN.
He still a double agent for VC government . So let be careful with him.
He can not become a leader in Vietnamese Refugee Community.
