The phrase “teetering on the brink of” has never been so value-laden. One could say that Truong Diep (pictured) is teetering on the brink of victory, or that he is teetering on the brink of defeat. Both possibilities are achingly close to the line he’s on right now, and which phrasing you use will reveal — well, it reveals something. Not sure what, but something.
The Registrar of Voters’ office is just about done counting the mail-in ballots. One more day, and they should be all counted. The batch of provisional ballots is still untouched by human hands, and those take the longest to verify and count.
With just one day left, Assemblyman Van Tran‘s district staffer and Westminster City Council candidate Truong Diep is barely behind second-place Penny Loomer. With two seats available, Diep could still make Westminster the first U.S. city with a majority Viet council, if he manages to overcome the 58-vote difference.
Diep currently has 9,875 votes, to Loomer’s 9,933, in a field of five. Countywide, another 5000+ mail-in ballots remain to be counted. By the time the Bolsavik called the Registrar’s office, it’s closed and so it’s not clear how many of the 5000 are from Westminster. If we pro-rate by registered voters, then Westminster probably has about 200.
In order to catch up, Diep would need to get his extra 58 votes while, at the same time, not only Loomer but the remaining three candidates are all taking votes from the few mail-in ballots that remain.
In terms of mathematical expections (yes, the Bolsavik is a mathematician), Diep probably needs to outpoll Loomer by anywhere between 7-to-1 and 3-to-1 (depending on the model) in the remaining absentee ballots — again, to account for the votes going to Frank Fry (who has won), Alin Hamade and Al Krippner.
Not impossible. There have been days when Diep outpolled Loomer by more than 3-to-1 in the mail-in’s. Like yesterday, when he got 156 votes to Loomer’s 34.
If Diep does get ahead after the mail-in ballots are counted, there are still the provisional ballots to be counted. Historically, the provisionals have not been where Viet candidates catch up. Diep may get further ahead or fall back behind. This drama is not over yet.

I agree with you 100%; this person and his lot are evil. If Truong Diep/Tomahawk/Jung Kim does win, it is better to approach from a positive perspective because he and the community could be butting heads for another 2 years. The question now is can the community sway his view to look out for their interest and protection?
Give the person an opportunity to redeem himself then judge him by his action. Think long term, Joe. He has that long political career ahead to think about. If he screws it up in the next two years, then he can only blame himself for his politicial downfall.

I wonder why the Garden Grove and Westminster Police department are not looking into all these back door activities that’s going on. I am not too concern about Truong Diep because he’s still young and still has potential to go far in his political career, it’s Dina and Andy that doesn’t have seem to have much to look forward to in the next years. Dina just loves the lime light but too dumb to even do her job as a Councilwoman correctly and too sleezy to earn the respect of the business community, Andy can’t seem to move past the Council race, if he does run again, it will be to defend his seat as council or get into a race with no real challenger, his political career is pretty much over. So is Van Tran, he’s termed out in 2 years. If he’s planning to run for Congress, NOT A CHANCE!!! Regarding exchanges about proofs of corruption, nobody else besides the FBI and the State Attorney General keep files on corrupted elected officials with proofs that will stand in court. The delivered charges in this blog are just rumors. If any of you do have concrete evidences against these Vietnamese Americans elected officials, please submit them to the FBI, not the local police departments because City Council members have some control over their police department. Besides, violation of federal laws brings longer jail times. Several elected officials have committed misdemeanors but the FBI will not bring misdemeanor charges against these corrupted elected officials because of the light sentences. They always build a case to the point that they can achieve a successful prosecution in Federal Court. Do remember about statute of limitation. The FBI needs fresh violations.

If you do have evidence(s) or a witness to substantiate a charge of corruption against any elected officials, do report it to the FBI. They will determine their own course of action.
