Steve Ngo expands lead, Andrew Do catches up, Truong Diep gets close

The fates of Viet candidates are looking better, as more and more of the mail-in and paper ballots are counted.

In San Francisco, Community College Board candidate Steve Ngo (pictured) seems locked to win the open fourth seat, with his lead over fifth-place finisher Mary T. Hernandez stretched to 4,193 votes.

But the big news of the day would be Andrew Do‘s sailing into the winning zone on the Garden Grove City Council. With an estimated 6000 votes yet to count in Garden Grove, Do is taking a commanding 1,000-vote lead over election-night second-place holder Robin Marcario.

Further down the list, first-time candidate Linh Ho is still leading perpetual candidate Trung Nguyen. Nguyen, whose organization specializes in getting supporters to vote by mail, remains behind Ho by more than 500 votes.

Another candidate moving ahead is incumbent Garden Grove school board member Kim-Oanh Nguyen-Lam. She had been in third place (three seats are at stake) on election night, but is now in second place ahead of newcomer George West.

Getting close to the winning line is Truong Diep running for one of two seats on the Westminster City Council. With an estimated 4000 votes remaining, Diep has rolled past former third-place Alin Hamade and is now less than 400 votes behind second-place Penny Loomer.

Even Mr. “I think I got more votes than everyone because I add votes in the separate races I’m running” Joseph Dovinh benefitted from the count. In the race for the Coast Community College District, Dovinh broke the 20% barrier and can now claim he did not lose 4-to-1.

Countywide, another 14,489 mail-in votes and 41,969 election-day paper ballots remain to be counted in the OC, not to mention the entire batch of 60,450 provisional ballots still left untouched.

    Just the enws,
Today is a holiday. The registrar is closed for the holiday. There wont be an update till tomorrow. Im surprised at the number of ballots left to be counted. There was a small turn out this year compared to what was expected due to this being a presidential year.

I would like to ask the registrar about the quality control of the provisional ballots. How do they know that those that voted by provisional ballots are the poeple they say they are?

@ Paul, thank you for the info. Good point.
