For all the Barack Obama fever sweeping the country, 52% of Viets in Southern California cast their votes for the former POW 
John McCain, over 46% for the now-president-elect, a survey of Asian-American voters found in a preliminary report released Friday.
The survey, here, sampled 4,034 voters in L.A. and Orange Counties, including 93 Viet voters in L.A. and 169 Viet voters in Orange County.
The preliminary report noted that 23% of Viet voters are voting for the first time. Asian Americans as a whole voted for Obama 60%-38%, but Viets voted 52%-46% for McCain, with 2% voting for “other.”
The preliminary report notes that “Data have not been weighted to approximate voter turnout.”
People watching Asian American views on social issues ought to pay attention to this survey result of the state-wide propositions:

The survey was conducted by the Asian-Pacific American Legal Center and OCAPICA, in cooperation with National Korean American Service and Education Consortium
This data is so shocking in terms of lack of real conviction for John McCain in Vietnamese American community. With overwhelming number of public endorsements for all Vietnamese organizations, John McCain could only muster 52% support.
Does it mean Vietnamese Americans are smarter than those McCain surrogates shown daily on television ?
John McCain has been, is ,and will always be a hero, but too old for being commander in chief. He was not a popular choice among many republican corners.
I do not understand why John McCain camp is out with a vengeance to discredit Sara Palin with all juicy details.
The results show people want to vote for positive reasons, not negatively against someone out of fear.
This is a lie. Real Vietnamese-Americans support our war hero John McCain by 10-1. Only the foolish young ones voted for Obama.

Cuong’s concerns for the community may be sincere and it is probably true that more older Asian and Vietnamese Americans voted for McCain, but Cuong is the fool for calling a legitimate, objective exit poll a “lie” and thinking that only “foolish” youths (and 66 million Americans) would vote for Obama.
The election is over! Get over it and get use to this fact – your war hero is going back to the Senate (or his retirement home in Arizona), and whenever he sees Obama he’s going to have to call him Mr. President.

Look, today is Veteran’s Day, so let’s show some respect for McCain’s military service. But this is America, and who I consider my hero is my choice. I may respect his service, but I did not and do not agree with his policy positions, including his positions on Vietnam, normalization and human rights.
And I also don’t like the fact that McCain continued to use the word gook for so long. He did eventually apologize for using the word gook, after repeating that he would not stop using the word and after a lot of protest from Asian American groups. For a national leader who wanted to be president and wanted our vote, he has to be evaluated under higher standards.
I think the entire thing was initiated by someone impersonating John McCain as a joke, not meant to attack him. It is purely coincidental that his posting falls on the same day as Veteran’s Day. It’s all in jest based on the fact that he called Viets g–ks, and these people are playing along.

I respect the man. Newsweek wrote a huge article on Senator Mc Cain months before, super rich in information. He adopted a kid to bring her to the States for medical attention. Although he remarried, he still was able to take care of his children from both marriages. Being in his 80s and running for the Presidency, he probably has more fight in him than I.
