Voters in Louisiana just elected the very first Vietnamese-American Congressman ever, sending Anh Joseph Cao (pictured) to Capitol Hill and rejected the re-election bid of William Jefferson, under indictment for corruption, reports the AP here.
With 79 percent of precincts reporting, Cao had 52.9 percent of the vote to Jefferson’s 43.2 percent, says CNN here.
Cao, registered Republican, is an immigration lawyer and community activist who once pursued the priesthood with the Jesuits.
Hailing from New Orleans’s Versailles — the area of almost 100% Vietnamese , best known to outsiders as an area heavily damaged by Katrina — Cao is said to be affiliated with Boat People S.O.S., a refugee rights advocacy group based in Washington DC.
Jefferson, the incumbent, is Louisiana’s first black Congress member since Reconstruction. He has been indicted for corruption. Among other evidence, Jefferson was videotaped by the FBI receiving $100,000 worth of $100 bills in a leather briefcase at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Arlington, Virginia.
Cao, a political newcomer, won in the district that’s 62% African-American and only 11% Republican.

I said it before & I’ll say it again: Van Tran is Van tran & Cindy is Cindy . . . Whatever my wife does is her own business. I’m not going to question her as long as she keeps bringing the dough . And why should anyone care, it’s not your money for crying out loud ! Worse comes to worse the Insurrance companies just have to raise the consumer’s premium to make up for the loss just like the taxpayers will have to pay more taxes to cover for the welfare & the medicare fraud. That’s how it works in this country folks. If you see an opportunity, you should grab it before someone else does, do you know what I mean ?
