Hung Phuong Nguyen, the representative of Van Tran who spent $5,000 of his boss’s money on radio air time accusing people (mostly Janet Nguyen and Andrew Do) of being commies, ran out of cash (and usefulness) after the election and announced that he was closing down his program, that he’d dubbed “Free Vietnam.”

Almost immediately, his frequent guest and former candidate Joseph Dovinh announced a new weekly radio program featuring himself and Hung Phuong Nguyen.
This pair (pictured at Dina Nguyen‘s campaign headquarters in June) will go well together.
In his announcement, besides the usual (lamenting about the Bolsavik and others who did not sing his praises, etc.), Dovinh repeated his (insert adjective of your choice: idiotic/ clever/ WTF/ creative) claim that “with 42,111 ballots for Dovinh for the college district and 6931 ballots for Dovinh for the Midway City Sanitary District, (he is) still the second most vote-getter in all 12 Vietnamese-American candidates.” (See also here, here and here.)
Hung Phuong Nguyen, for his part, once “analyzed” the results of the June supervisorial election like this (see copy of his email here): Dina Nguyen got 12,472 votes; that means 12,472 Viet voters voted for her. Also: In the 2006 special elections to the District 1 Supervisor’s seat, non-Viet candidates got 23097 total votes. In June 2008, Janet Nguyen received 24642 votes. “Therefore” Janet Nguyen got only 24642 – 23097 = 2626 votes from Vietnamese-Americans. Or maybe he meant to take the 2006 votes for Janet and Trung Nguyen, and subtract off the 2008 votes for Dina and Hoa Van Tran to arrive at 2626. Or something like that.
Birds of a feather ….

All of that makes sense after a semester in Voodoo Statistics.
Hey, check your math. That’s not how HPN came up with 2626 either.

This tit-for-tat, you went after our guys so now we go after yours with no ending.
No one is alone in this mistake and all of us are diminished.
It is time to recognize that we may not agree, but then we don’t have to. There is room for diversity.
It is time for some growing up.
With his hands in his pant’s pockets, Hung Nguyen counts for 3 legs.
Hao Nhien / Bolsavik:
Please stop lying to your bloggers, I did not “repeat my claim” on-air as you write here. I am the second highest vote-getter of all Vietnamese American candidates in the last election, (with Coast CC District votes counted alone)– why is that such a hard fact for you to accept? What is your agenda? I don’t need anyone to “sing my praises”, I am just asking the media to show some sense of journalistic ethics and respect the truth. I’ve always thought of you as a leader in the field of journalism, and your blogs are a service to the community, when it is at it’s best. But when you are out to mock people and publish misinformation, I think that’s hurtful and uncalled for. It is the Holiday season, time for peace and quiet, can you show others some simple respect?
Thanks,
Joseph Dovinh
I did not hear Mr. Joseph Dovinh repeating such claim on air and as a responsible community members we must adhere to the truth……promoting nothing less than positiveness.
Mr. Joseph Dovinh has been highly respected by many and he has every right to correct any wrong claims presented on this blog.
It is my strong desire to wish/pray for all viet candidates……… to be successful in 2010.
Mr. Joseph Dovinh, you are also in my prayers and thank you for your past community leadership. Please keep up with good work.
I wish everyone in our little Community and the rest of the world a merry Christmas and take care of yourself and your family. Those are the only tangibles we hold in this existence!

Merry Christmas ! ! !
For only a moment, Malice to none, Goodwill toward all.
Sure we all should respect “I am the second highest vote-getter of all Vietnamese American candidates in the last election …” from Mr. Jojeph Dovinh as we all should respect Mr. McCain is the second highest vote-getter of all candidates of all roots in the last election.
Math and comparation are for adult !
SDK, you are not forced to respect any viet..just be open minded /kind.
Dear Bloggers:
This forum can be a respectable place to exchange ideas and information, thank you for your understanding and decency. I am humbled by your criticism and have much to learn from everyone. “The truth shall set us free”. Let’s try to be constructive and kind to each other as much as we can, please. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Joseph Dovinh
Mr. Joseph Dovinh, I am glad we have mutual understanding here and we are excited to have you participate in this blog with great humility.
I hope you can support all good viet leaders(present and future) with right reason and purpose.
Merry Christmas!
Mr. Dovinh,
I agree with Jung Kim. It could all be a joke to draw more bloggers on this website, not toward you. I respect you for using your real identity!
Dear Jung Kim, I am not feel forced by anyone to respect any Viet candidates, I just feel I should respect Mr. Hung Nguyen’s math and Mr. Dovinh’s comparation, because their math and comparation giving me some laughs during this difficult time.
Wel, it’s now AFTER Christmas and after we enjoyed the Peace to all during the holidays, let me just comment that Mr. Dovinh and many of the Viets are the first to claim “racist” when others refer to Viets; however it is evident in publications in the Viet Community and even in these posts on this blog that Mr. Dovinh and others prefer to have Viet representatives rather than just the best qualified regardless of their race. Please remember the “I have a dream” speech by Martin Luther King, a black man who had watched his people (race) suffer indignities and his race had started out as slaves in the United States until they were freed. These things the Viets have not suffered here. They have been greeted with open arms by America, given housing, given many opportunities they would not have had in Vietnam. They did not stay behind in their beloved homeland to fight to make it free, but fled to America. Now they are here and cannot remember that Americans have a dream, that our children will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. We are the children, yet the Viets prefer and support and promote ONLY their own race. Now who are the racists?
American Woman/bloggers:
Give me evidence to support your claim that “Mr. Dovinh and many of the Viets are the first to claim “racist” “, be specific to me, if you could please. For the record, I have never made any “racist” claims (against anyone) as you insinuate here. Don’t confuse what you hear from others and what you hear directly from me. “Racist” is a serious charge, I have never said anyone was “racist” and I have never made race an issue in my election campaign. I am proud to be a Vietnamese American, and I cite my vote count as a matter of fact, without any commentary as to who cast those votes or why people voted for me. Also, please try to keep separate what Mr. Nguyen Phuong Hung say and what I say, we do not necessarily share the same views on things, but I respect his opinions just as I do yours, which is well thought out and actually a very good point to make. However, I do not agree with your comment that “yet the Viets prefer and support and promote ONLY their own race.” I believe this is inaccurate. Vietnamese American voters have voted for candidates of all creed and color. Here, you have made conclusions that are unsupported by facts. Please try to be more objective and fair, thanks, have a Happy New Year.
Joseph Dovinh.
We vote for the best candidate who can represent our community’s value from the limited number of candidate choices available .
If American woman is correct(viets only vote for the viet candidates)…. then you write off viet voters in the presidential race? I don’t think so.
Mr. DoVinh:
Actually, recently, Assemblyman Van Tran was speaking at a meeting with others of various races mixed in the audience. He stated with purpose that the Viets had formed an excellent voting block (using the word block is significant here) and that they needed to form even larger circles in the coming two years in order to place more Viets in prominent elected positions. Also two years ago he and his coherts ran an ad in the Viet Bao in Vietnamese which has been translated twice with extremely close exact translation; stating that the Viets should vote as a “block” for Viets in order to win elected seats.
You may not have run those ads Mr. Dovinh, however, if you are “hanging out” with Dina Nguyen, who is an elected official, promoted by Assemblyman Van Tran and his “block” then this alone lends the thought that you are of the same persuasion as the “block”.
To Junk Kim: “viets only vote for the viet candidates” – in local races, which was the topic, not national elections.
American girl, if there is no viet candidates in any certain local races..viets don’t vote?
Hmmm… what is voting block? Why did Dem. congressman Joe Baca requested newly elect Pres.Obama to appoint more hispanics to the cabinet……. in order to satisfy hispanic voting block? and what did Obama do?
Don’t give me “I have a dream…rather, give me a voting block” said Obama.
Yes, our viets will form a voting block in coming election ……and this is how you win the public office seats in american politics!
Ask all political campaign experts!
P.S. Our voting block will deny Art Pedroza for the next 100 years.
