With the one-year anniversary of the protests outside its doors only a few weeks away, the Nguoi Viet newspaper published a New Year’s day column by its award-winning commentator Ky-Phong Tran.
The column is entitled “Happy New Year” and was the full-front-page feature story on Nguoi Viet 2 News, the English weekly insert in the paper.
In the column, Tran made a number of wishes for 2009, and one of the wishes was this one: “#3: Little Saigon appreciates dissent.”
Ten lines down, subtlety went out the window and gave way to this finger wagging:
“Yo, protesters,” wrote Tran. “It’s called a difference of opinion. Deal with it.”
.

Agree, the protesters have to be able to talk about it.
Yes, I agree with Ky-Phong’s finger wagging but it seems to me that they (THE PROTESTERS) are dealing with it and very effectively at that. Have you noticed that the “bao xuan” for Nguoi Viet is of poor quality and has no advertisement. It appears that the protest has been very effective indeed and they are dealing with Nguoi Viet’s and Bolsavik’s and their’s differences the best way they know how: RIGHT IN YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR POCKET BOOKS.
