The owner of Lee Nguyen‘s prospective team went on record and denied paying his new player U.S.$40,000 a month – as Bolsavik.com’s reader Lanin pointed out here.
In an interview with Thanh Nien daily newspaper here (in Vietnamese), Doan Nguyen Duc (pictured) the
owner of Hoang Anh Gia Lai not only denied the pay amount, but also insulted his new star and revealed that Lee’s contract has not been finalized.
According to Duc, Lee (whom fans call by his first name) is getting “less than 1/3″ of the rumored amount. One third of 40k is about 13k, so Lee is still the highest paid soccer player in Vietnam, just not as high as reputed.
Duc also said that “with that kind of money ($40k a month) I could have gotten a European star and why would I bother with Lee?”
Nice.
Way to establish a relationship there, Duc.
The most important part of Duc’s quote, though, is that he admitted that the team’s contract with Lee is not yet final.
According to Duc, the contract is “90% complete” and will be signed in Saigon in January.
As everyone who’s ever been involved in closing any deal knows, there’s no such thing as a deal 90% done. The closer a contract is to being finalized, the higher the risk of it going down the tube.
Wait and see may be appropriate here.
As Bolsavik said, nothing is done until it’s done. We just hope for the best for Lee. Thanks Bolsavik for your informative report follow ups.
Our job is to encourage and support Lee Nguyen for his soccer talent. Not to be overly concerned over how much he makes in salaries.
Lee, Play with pride and we truly appreciate your skills.
Leee,
Good luck son!!!! they could throw you in jail anytime……If that happens, don’t beg the Vietnamese Oversea to help you to get out of jail….
That couch is an asshole. I’d stay put if I were Lee!
as many people already have known, any transfer amount over $3,000 is recorded by the department of the treasury, just in case the need arises for the checking against illegal money or for making sure it was reported as revenue with the Internal Revenue Service
Duc also said that “with that kind of money ($40k a month) I could have gotten a European star and why would I bother with Lee?”
Since when does a “European star” make 40k a month. That’s like 480k a year. Someone needs to slap Duc.
Money can be a secondary issue anyway.
