There’s an interesting (some would say ironic) alignment of the stars in the last two weeks. First, there’s Madison Nguyen‘s victory in San Jose, beating back efforts to recall her. And then there’s the signing today by President Barack Obama of the 2009 Omnibus Appropriations, i.e. the national budget.
What do these events have in common? The metaphysical link is Joseph Anh Cao (pictured), the Vietnamese-American Congressman from Louisiana.
You may remember that some people were threatening to recall him (read here), because he voted with his GOP colleagues and against the President’s stimulus package. The recall proponents’ claim is that the stimulus package would help rebuild Katrina-ravaged New Orleans, and local representative Cao’s vote against it is a vote against his constintuents.
Whether or not that is a sin worthy of recall is another issue, but it’s certainly meatier and worthier than the issue of naming a two-block shopping area.
Cao apparently got the message.
When the spending bill came before the House, Cao voted for it, earmarks and all. In so doing, Cao not only voted against the GOP, he even voted against the Louisiana Congressional delegation.
Check the roll call here. The Republicans voted against the bill 158-16. The Louisiana delegation (other than Cao) also voted against it 4-1. Cao voted yes.
Better safe than sorry….
Mr. Cao did the right thing voting in favor of his constituents, nothing to do with political ideology. Whereas with the lady boy Republicans in Little Saigon, even in their home turf, they are too gutless to take a stand like Mr. Cao.
Oh, Mr. Cao, where are true VN leaders? What we have here are commie calling b-ll sh-tters, running round lady boys, ready to sell their rear end for political life.
What is worse than a woman’s scorn? The scorn of a lady boy accusing others of being communist or pro-communist with no proof.
With all the excessive yapping, you lady boys can really produce a good “oratory delivery” to all your political benefactors. Blow lady boys blow because that is all you know!
Billy Goat/Jack Ass Mix……. you are the by product of your gene pool surrounded by the bunch of he shes.
there should be a study done to see why every single viet elected official is either useless or a coward. it cant be the water and it sure as hell isnt the food i eat viet food all the time and i still have my nutsack. i doubt it’s a cultural thing. well if anybody wants to do a study i’ll kick in the first 5 bucks.
Real Republican reaction:

In their backyard.
Leader of the recall movement to remove Cao from the House is a criminal.
Maybe there should be an investigation of the “leaders” of the recall movement to remove Madison.

Politic is local.
I think Mr. Cao did the right thing. His district consists mostly of African American Democrafts and they are in need of assistance from the Gov.
He was an INDEPENDENCE before the Republican Party recruited Mr. Cao.
Mr. Cao is caught in tough situation. But he will prevail and I hope he will be in the US Congress for a long time representing his district.
BEST WISHES Mr. Cao and make us proud.
Mr. Cao has my support.
jose licks solorio butt, you can send your $5 to help hungry and homeless.
FYI, there are plenty of good viet leaders. I think you are the twisted one.
cao has your support jung kim? well i’m sure he’s happy about that. it’s not often a councilman has the support of the villiage idiot.
FYI, read this:

If you are a politician and your position on any issue has changed an inch since you were in elementary school, then you are a waffler. The pundits examine your past self and compare with your current self and, O what a diff’rence…, gotcha!!!
Voters encourage politicians to be consistent, not to grow and change and self-correct, or you “can’t be trusted”. But truth be told, politicians love to talk about the wisdom of duplicity. Sometimes that’s how they have to do business since people need the fairy tale to get through the day.
“Read my lips: no new taxes” – we all hear that. Reassuring???
If history teaches us anything, it’s that a cretinous simpleton can be a mistake. Some of the people we often admire and praise, like Churchill, was adamant that any negotiation with Mahatma Gandhi was appeasement. He orchestrated a brutal policy of forcibly keeping India a permanent part of the British rule. He was stubborn in his determination to never change.
Consistent but wrong!!!
It’s a political world, and everybody seems to have an agenda to establish the path of least resistance to re-election. Like Pepsi and Coke, the two political parties don’t really care what they stand for, just so long as they are ahead in market share.
In the politics of hope, there was a feeling of “anybody but W”.
Nowadays, frightening headlines occur regularly.
Is it a “V-shaped recession” a quick recovery, or a “L-shaped recession” a long sluggish growth?
When “the audacity of hope” be metamorphosed into “the velocity of hope” ?
Very good lesson, XYZ! I really appreciate it.
jose licka solorio butt, Mr. Cao is a congressman you idiot!
And ….your moon master Solorio is a state assemblyman.
Good blog XYZ! Change towards forward progress is personal growth, and an explanation is needed to inform the voters. Doing a reversal in voting position without good reason is another affair.
ok so i screwed up, he’s a congressman and not a councilman the message i’m putting out here is the same: what elected official would want the support of the villiage idiot jung kim? does your endorsement hold any weight? after all who the hell are you but a filthy communist pig.
jose de licka solorio butt, your dong smudged nose is not a good excuse for not knowing that Mr. Cao is our first viet/american congressman.
Get a life or dig your own hole. Oh yes you real idiot.
We are ALL proud to support our first viet/american congressman.
Go Mr. Cao!
