The Bolsavik saw this posted prominently at Santa Ana College. And then he also received the press release in his email. The Luckman at Cal State L.A. is an entire complex devoted to Fine Arts, including several theaters large and small, and the 3,600 square foot Luckman Gallery that has been described as “Kunsthalle-like space.”
And Minh Tran & Company will be performing there tomorrow Saturday at 8:30pm. That’s Minh Tran himself in the picture above.
Here’s the blurp that appears on the poster at SAC:
Making its Luckman debut, Minh Tran & Company’s repertory of work and approach to contemporary dance will inspire audiences with its remark
able synthesis of both eastern and western aesthetics. The cross-cultivation of eastern and western forms results in a body of work that is symbolic, phyical, spiritual, and personal yet universal. Nocturnal Path [pictured right] draws from the spiritual world of Southeast Asia and is based on images of archaeological discoveries and mural paintings from temples throughout the region. The War Within [pictured after the jump] is an excerpt from The Road Home that recalls memories and experiences in South Vietnam under the communist regime from 1975-1980 and Tran’s escape to Thailand.
The performance will be at the Intimate Theatre at the Luckman on the campus of Cal State L.A. Tickets are $30.

The Luckman has long been a nationally known venue for works by ethnic minority artists. Vietnamese artists are moving on up and joining the ranks.
Minh Tran is a former student at the National Conservatory in Saigon and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in dance from the University of Washington.

The performance looks very inviting and should attract many people.
