Body of Viet man who died trying to save drowning boy identified

A Vietnamese man dove into the Potomac river trying to save a boy who had fallen in the water, but did not resurface. His body was found Saturday, almost a week later, reports the Washington Post here and the Northern Virginia Daily here.

Police identified the body as that of Hau Nguyen, 37, of Reston, Virginia.

Mr. Nguyen had dived into the water trying to save Jorge Castro, 11, who had fallen in while fishing with his father. Little Jorge’s father had also dived in. Police rescued the father, but could not find Hau Nguyen.

The attempted rescue took place on Sunday April 26. The valiant Viet man’s body was not found until Saturday.

Rest in peace….

That Viet man didn’t know how to swim and never really jump in the water. The Castro boy’s father actually push him down to the river.
