Van Tran to run against Loretta Sanchez in 2010

It’s officially Van Tran vs Loretta Sanchez now. The termed out Vietnamese-American Assemblyman from Garden Grove is once again proving that he can be a team player, going along with the GOP’s plan for him to run against U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez in 2010, instead of something more winnable like Lou Correa‘s or the soon-to-be-vacated Tom Harman‘s State Senate seat (for which Tran already filed a statement of intent; read here).

The first member of the press that Van Tran called to announce this was OC Register‘s Martin Wisckol, who wrote up on his blog here.

On Politico.com last week (here), GOP heavies opine that pitting Tran against Sanchez may be the GOP’s best chance at capturing a House seat. That would be quite a feat. Ever since Loretta Sanchez won a squeaker against Tran’s former boss, Rep. Bob Dornan, she has always won by double digits.

One thing for sure: If Tran does become the second Vietnamese-American in Congress, he will have a better chance at a second term than the first member.

  1. Jung Kim says:

Great news for our viets…now Bolsavik can run against weaking Lou!

Go assemblyman Van Tran, go Bolsavik!

  2. Jung Kim says:

Loretta’s popularity has been shrinking steadily for last few years and I think it’s right timing to take her out by our viet candidate.

  3. Jung Kim says:

We need to encourage all of our friends/family members to vote for Assemblyman Van Tran in 2010.

    We must WIN!

  4. jose s. says:

van tran is a corrupt pig who can care less about the viet community. he will lose this race.

  5. Jung Kim says:

Here comes anti viet, retardo jose licka solorio butt again. Go kiss solorio and give your last hug to Loretta. She’s done!

Our viets are lining up for Assemblyman Van Tran.

  6. Jung Kim says:

I am wondering if unsanitary jose might be the main contributor source for this swine flu.

  7. QuangP says:

I don’t think anything is official until his name goes onto the GOP primary ballot next spring. This is an exploration, something that every candidate does to get some early attention. Can he put $3mil in the bank? Will there be primary challengers that he has to spend $ against? Can he attract $ outside of Lil Saigon and OC? Does he have enough broad appeal? We will find out if he actually goes on the general ballot in November 2010 vs. Loretta and independent and third party candidates.

  8. Jung Kim says:

QuangP, if you are a proud viet…… you are more than welcome to contribute some funds.

    We are ready to sail/help!

  9. Jung Kim says:

The main thing is that we are going for nothing less than a WIN in this important race.

  10. Tuan Le says:

I will vote for Sanchez, Van Tran is a FAKE, LIAR

  11. Jung Kim says:

Yeah, and your name is Loretta Sanchez! Running scared…

  12. Jung Kim says:

This is a great day for us. Let’s all do our parts in electing first OC Viet American Congressman!

  13. Jung Kim says:

I think Bolsavik can take on Lou at same time…our viet voters will be highly motivated to add first OC Viet American State Senator as well!

    Go Bolsavik!

  14. tuanphucnguyen says:

Don’t trust Republican! Let alone a Viet Repubican. Loretta, you always got my vote!

  15. Country First says:

Your spiteful exchange of insults are alarming.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

    1. Please list 10 accomplishments that your candidate have completed.

    2. Please name one or more things good about your opponent.

    That’s all we need.

    ROBERT LAUTEN (AI) 6,274 5.1%

  17. jose s. says:

the only thing van tran should be concerned about is keeping his filthy wife cindy from breaking the law again. i’m sure that will be brought up if he goes against sanchez. van tran is a disgrace.

  18. NguoiNoLeDaVang says:

Why do Vietnamese people always go against the interest of other minority groups by voting for Republicans? Is is due to our selfishness or years of being colonized by the West? Japanese, Chinese, Latino and Black Americans overwhelmingly support Democrats because they understand the racist and conservative tradition of the Republicans. Oops, I forgot, we Vietnamese have some allies: the Philippinos! They are known for selling their bodies and souls to their Republican masters too. There you go…

  19. NguoiNoLeDaVang says:

I know that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but in this case the cover is very neauseating, don’t you think? I am sick of idiots who wear little flags on their jackets! Are they still in elementary school or something?

  20. Viet Pride says:

You are truly a No Le Da Vang to a Mexican woman. Shame on you. Loretta can play with Hugh Hefner and you can get money from Obama. haha.

  21. Van Fan says:

    Jose s.,

Loretta is an Angel in white stockings. Let’s ask her dirty cat, Gretzsky what they have been doing under the sheets. May be you know too, right?

Fear not my S—, Van Tran will kick your lady angel’s ass.

  22. jose s. says:

van fan, she’s not my lady just the lesser of two evils.

  23. OC REPUBLICAN says:

You have stated a very true statement jose s. I’m a republican but no way I’m going to vote for Van Tran.

  24. Judas of the minorities says:

Oh yeah, I have changed my mind! I’ll vote Republican now because they stand for my values: make wars (to sell weapons), eliminate human services (although my parents and relatives greatly benefit from them, but hey, we want to pay as little taxes as possible), pay no mind to public transportation (to hell with the environment) and most of all, what’s wrong with betraying my fellow minority groups (I am still enjoying shining my white masters’ boots with my tongue). It’s true that many Vietnamese benefited from the Democrats’ social services when we just arrived in this country but hey, we have crossed that bridge now, let’s burn the bridge, sink the boat and let’s all get tacky (short haircut, polo shirts, and an ugly house in the suburb)!

  25. Country First says:

    Political Math :

    1 Vietnamese + 1 Vietnamese = 1 Voice
    1 Vietnamese + 1 non-Vietnamese = 2 Voices

** LORETTA SANCHEZ : keen on this equation.
    Her math : 69.5% Win = 1 Hispanic + 0.3 Vietnamese + 0.3 Caucasian + 0.4 Democrats

** VAN TRAN : result of math test is in 2010

  26. Country First says:

    ** VAN TRAN

    Win = 1 Vietnamese + 1 Republican

  27. BB King says:

For the life of me I never understood Vietnamese voting for a party who could care less about them but their votes. There was a sea of white faces at the RNC. What has the Republican party done for Vietnamese? Exactly what? Is it because some of them have reached middle class status and believe Republicans are the party of status?. Most Republicans I know don’t care about social programs and helping mankind. They continue to preach they’re Christians and man should take care of himself. The last time I read the Bible, it says there will ALWAYS be “poor” people. We need programs to teach them how to fish, not for a day, but for life.

  28. jose s. says:

country first, can you explain the math on why every elected viet official is such a miserable selfish failure?

  29. Jung Kim says:

Assemblyman Van Tran will bring our community together in this voyage.

We are eager to participate. Elect Viet American to the Congress!

  30. Country First says:

    Buenos días, Jose

Vietnamese leaders follow the Cuban American model with some critical differences :

    1. In Miami, Cuban Americans have the financial power, they control most of the international trade with Latin America.

In Santa Ana, Vietnamese busineses are net renters ( not owners ) of most commercial properties on Bolsa Avenue, the Mecca of Vietnamese capitalism.

Financial weakness is fatal, no spreading of the wealth effects into broader community.

  31. Country First says:

  32. SJ_Viet says:

@ Country First – Very impressive. You have earned my respect with your clear precise reasoning skill. My hat is off to you my friend.

Financial power will lead to political influence and eventually political power. Perfect example of this is the Jewish influence on the national politic landscape of the U.S. As a community, we need to look at them as a “how to” guide to succeed politically and financially. The name callings, red bating and narrow minded of our so call community leaders will not lead us anyway. Just my two pennies!!

  33. BB King says:

    Junk Kim Said:
Assemblyman Van Tran will bring our community together in this voyage.

Is this TITANIC’S MAIDEN VOYAGE ?

  34. Country First says:

    SJ_Viet,

Such glowing comment from you is a precious honor for me.

  35. Jung Kim says:

No BB King, Titanic’s Maiden Voyage is about Loretta’s last marriage dissolution! DingDong brain.

  36. Jung Kim says:

Our voyage is about community empowerment.

  37. Country First says:

Van Tran against Loretta Sanchez 2010 : A rematch of 1998 Dorman Vs Sanchez

A brassy Dorman ( now VAN TRAN ) with fierily conservation platform against coquettish Sanchez armed with a loose coalition of soft liberal and minority issues.

  38. Ly Tong says:

    Country First,

  39. Country First says:

    Ly Tong,

Mi español es limitado muy comprender su mensaje. ¡Arrepentido!

  40. OC REPUBLICAN says:

@BBKing, that’s why I’m a republican. The poors should be able to learn how to fish for themselves instead of relying on all the taxpayers people to feed them for the rest of their lives.

  41. OC Democrat says:

    OC Republican,
That’s why we need vocational training, college financial aids, human and social services to help them to fish for themselves. Giving them no assistance is in no way helping them to fish for themselves.
There is a big difference between helping someone to learn how to fish and to leave him/her dead in the cold. Humans are not born the same nor into exact same situations/conditions. As a society, we need to extend our compassion to the less fortunate. I guess that’s the big difference between Dem and Repub (beside the fact that the Repub hate anyone who is different from them ie poor, gay, bisexual, non-Christian, non-white, etc).

  42. Country First says:

National Poll on 2010 election _ party politics

Cook Political Report/RT Strategies Poll. April 8-11, 2009. N=833 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.5 (for all registered voters)..

“Regardless of how you might plan to vote in your own district, which party would you like to see in control of Congress after the congressional elections in 2010: the Democrats or the Republicans?” If other/unsure: “Well, which way do you lean — more toward the Democrats or the Republicans?” Options rotated

    .

    Democrats Republicans Other (vol.) Unsure
    % % % %

    All 49 38 5 8

    Republicans 4 92 1 2
    Independents 42 30 11 17
    Democrats 93 3 1 4

** Holder of power for the next election is the independent voters. **

  43. OC REPUBLICAN says:

@ OC Democrat, I’m total agreed with some of your point of views. However, I disagreed with what you stated at the end. As a human being, we should all have compassion for one another regardless which party you’re with. But we have to draw a line somewhere when there are certain people want to take an advantage of the situation and I’m sure you have an idea what I’m refering to. We should respect other opion if we want the samething for ourselves so if one says that he’s ok with gay marriage then another can also says he doesn’t like it.

  44. reporter says:

Based on the facts in 2006, it could be different for the time being:
    For Casino:
    - assemblyman Tran Thai Van (district 68 for California Assembly)
    - councilman Andy Quach (City of Westminster)
    Against Casino:
    - supervisor Janet Nguyen (district 1, Orange County)
    - councilman Ta Duc Tri (City of Westminster)
    - councilwoman Dina Nguyen (City of Garden Grove)
    - board of education member Nguyen-Lam Kim Oanh (Garden Grove School District)
    - board of education member Nguyen Quoc Lan (Garden Grove School District)
    - board of education member Nguyen Quang Trung (Garden Grove School District)
    - board of education member Andrew Nguyen (Westminster School District)
    Remarks:
    - board of education member Nguyen Quang Trung (Garden Grove): no more in position.
    - councilman Andrew Do (City of Garden Grove): elected in 2008, no record about the matter.
    - councilman Tyler Diep Mien Truong (City of Westminster): elected in 2008, no record about the matter.

  45. OC REPUBLICAN says:

Now, that will be another good reason not to vote for Van or Andy !

  46. Fraud Detector says:

    OC Republican

So, is Arlen Specter one of your friends, too? Give up your nonsense, please!

  47. lottahope says:

I will give Van Tran credit for taking on this challenge. Big juevos. Of course Jung Kim is out there somewhere in her cheerleader outfit…..

  48. OC REPUBLICAN says:

Well, I’m sure Andy & Van are your friends Fraud Detector. Too bad your equipment must not working properly otherwise you would be able to detect those two are fraud miles away .

  49. Laura T. says:

I think almost the Viet community will be lining up for Van Tran, a good contributor and a real anti Viet communists. Loretta is helpful too but hopefully Van may do better and stronger for the freedom and democracy of Viet Nam, his mother land. So it’s time for Loretta to take a break, like Bob Dornan, after her 7 long terms. We need change! The popularity of Van Tran made some bad Viet young men jealous and anti him. The Viet Community is not lying at all on welfare as Jose and BB King wrongly and heartfully stated, we’re good and sucessfull citizens and positive tax payers. Viet community don’t vote for Democrats because they too liberal, they don’t respect family values in tolerating gay, bisexual, abortion… Loretta was not accepted by the Catholic Church of OC because of that.
