How much footcare does an amputee need?

This is a little old but funny as heck. A Viet foot doctor has been accused of fraudulent billing for care not provided, including purported footcare for a patient whose feet had been amputated, reports local paper Belleville News-Democrat here.

Dr. David Quang Pham, a podiatrist in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, was arrested on June 12 on federal charges.

Dr. Pham was working in a nursing home, and he was regularly submitting bills to Medicare and Medicaid from 2002 to 2008 that allegedly include care for residents who had no feet.

He has been indicted on one count of health care fraud, one count of obstruction of a criminal investigation of health care offenses and 20 counts of making false statements.

May be Dr. Pham was treating them for the “phantom pain” problems ? :-)

What is a “phantom pain” : (Internet source)

    >Phantom sensation is usually experienced by most amputees at one time or another. Some of us are blessed with very little exposure to the “unpleasantries” of phantom sensation, some experience severe pain on a daily basis.

Phantom sensation is not just the feeling of having a limb when no limb is present (which usually goes away). It is a term used for any sensation or pain originating from a residual (stump) limb.

Phantom sensation can range from tingling sensations to severe sharp, stabbing pain that can only be controlled via professional pain management.

I don’t know what is wrong with all these criminal Viet doctors. Don’t they have any ethical value at all? They are doctors so they should make pretty comfortable living. Right!?

I think these criminal Viet doctors just getting greedy and want more more money.

Stop trying to keep up with “the Nguyens (Jones)”.

In the doctor’s defense, food can re-grow again.

Medical care is a profession as just any other profession. And it has frauds and greedy people just as any profession does. In America, doctors should be living a very comfortable life. But it is greed that makes people always want more.

    @Pho 75:

Not all doctorate degrees in the medical field are created equal…… people with MD, DO, DMD, PharmD degrees make pretty good money and jobs are really easy to find.

On the other hand, Chiropracty and Podiatry are pretty much the bottom of the barrel as far as medical doctorates go (the Viet doctor in this story was a Podiatrist).

There’s actually a lot of stories of Chiropracters committing suicide due to huge student loans and not enough income from their medical practice.

Nursing degrees and Physician Assistant degrees (two non doctorate degrees) are actually more valuble (in the job market) than a doctorate in either Chiropracty or Podiatry.

Also, Chiropracty schools and Podiatry schools are easy as sh-t to get into (makes sense considering market conditions).
