Weekend update: Bounty hunter’s accused shooter freed

Just to update something that the Bolsavik mentioned before: The Vietnamese man who was accused by reality-TV star “Dog the Bounty Hunter” of shooting at him has been set free because there was no evidence he even so much as had a gun. On motion by the accused man’s attorney, the court has scheduled briefing on whether to order the DA to press false-reporting charges against the bounty hunter.

Duane Chapman, star of the above-named reality show on A&E Television, had accused the bail jumper he was chasing, Hoang Nguyen, 35, of shooting at him.

(At the right, on top is the booking photo of Hoang Nguyen published by TMZ. Below that is the booking photo of Chapman when he was arrested by Mexico’s police in 2003.)

As the Bolsavik reported here, at the time Chapman had the TV crew with him but they had no tape of the shooting.

Based on Chapman’s accusation, the police originally charged Nguyen with attempted homicide, even though they also said that “no gun was found on Hoang Nguyen’s person, and they’ve yet to find a bullet hole or shell casing at the scene.”

Lacking any solid evidence other than the words of a bounty hunter, the El Paso County DA had no choice but to let Nguyen go, reports TMZ here.

Nguyen’s public defender, however, would not rest at that.

He went after Chapman, filing a motion with the judge in the case to force the DA’s office to press charges against the bounty hunter for what he said was a blatant lie that led to his client’s murder charge.

Reports the Colorado Springs Gazette here: “In his motion, [Deputy Public Defender BillSchoewe asked the judge to force the district attorney’s office to press several charges related to false reporting against Chapman and the members of his group who were there that night.”

Fans of the Dog began an email writing campaign telling the public defender to back off. Schoewe, however, would not. He told the Gazette, “What he did to Hoang Nguyen was wrong and illegal, and he should be held accountable for it. I’m attempting to seek justice.”

The judge has ordered the DA’s office to file a response on June 12 (last Friday).

FANS OF THIS LAME SHOW ARE USUALLY THE LAW BREAKER AND DESTITUTE TYPES, SO YEAH, THEY HAVE TO PROTECT ONE OF THEIR OWN. DISCOVERY CHANNEL? NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC? SCIENCE CHANNEL? BBC AMERICA?

IF THE PEOPLE ON THERE DON’T LOOK LIKE CIRCUS FREAKS OR CROSS DRESSING MACHO DIRT BAGS, THEN THE CONTENT MUST BE WORTHLESS.

  3. Tran keith says:

Hoang Nguyen is a slime ball, he needs to be brought to justice or deported. Duane can just apologize and lets move on.

  4. jose s. says:

as i said before, no gun, bullet holes or shell casings means dog chapman is a liar. also he signed something in mexico saying he would go back to court but never did that makes him a fugitive. i hope they follow through with this false accusation and go after him for the criminal he is.

  5. Jung Kim says:

The “bounty hunter” needs to be locked up…… without bail.

Even if he was shot by any fleeing law breakers, mad dog has exposed himself to such danger when he took this line of work.
