Andy Quach arrested on DUI suspicion

Westminster councilman Andy Quach (pictured visiting Nguoi Viet protestors) was arrested last night on suspicion of DUI after crashing his car into a power pole, causing a black-out to 300 homes in his city that lasted more than half a day, reports the OC Register here.

The Bolsavik was told, but has not confirmed, that mong the homes left without power are those of former Mayor and County Supervisor Chuck Smith and of the widow of the late Councilman Russell Paris.

The collision occurred at about midnight Saturday when Quach, 37, drove his black S550 Mercedes-Benz into a power pole on McFadden between Magnolia and Newland, police said.

Emergency power crews from Southern California Edison was working at the location throughout the night and into midday Sunday to restore power.

Quach said he is remorseful about what happened and will take “full responsibility for everything.”

“I got into a very bad car accident,” he said this afternoon. “I’m hurting physically and emotionally right now. But I’m extremely relieved and so grateful that no one else was hurt in this accident.”

Quach insists, “I don’t believe what happened will affect my abilities as a councilman.”

Quach did not submit to a breath test but did take a blood test. (All potential DUI suspects should choose the same option, by the way.) Results are forthcoming.

Andy Quach is one of the younger, more colorful, more flamboyant Viet elected officials. He first ran for the Westminster City Council in 2000 and lost, but then won in 2002. In 2004 he ran for mayor and lost. In 2006, he won his second four-year term on the council.

WHAT’S AN IDIOT ! ! ! …. or may be not . . . there’s a reason why he refused to take the breath test.

  2. Rizzy says:

anything over .8 is over .8 whether or not it is breath, blood, or urine test and thus dui per se. but he’ll find a real good attorney to get out of it. but a local councilman driving a Benz S550 (Over 100K) need the IRS’s attention. Or he got it as a gift from his rich wife.

  4. Art Pedroza says:

I wonder if Quach will still be involved in Van Tran’s congressional campaign?

  5. JB says:

Please do not rush to judgement until all the facts are revealed.

  6. Paul says:

    Bolsavik,
its kind of odd that you ignore the story of Tan Nguyen’s trial being post poned and yet you were all over this story as it broke.

  7. Jung Kim says:

Drunk driving is bad because it often cause injuries/deaths of innocent peolpe….in this case, thank God no one else was hurt.

I pray for Andy’s fast recovery and I hope he will never drink again. Andy has been a good councilman for the city and we need him to lead our community.

  8. Saigoner says:

    Jung Kim,

You are right. Next time, Andy can lead our community into a light pole.

  9. Jung Kim says:

yeah, and you can have a dinner in the bathroom.

  10. paul is a trannie says:

Trannie Paul goes after the Bolsavik’s editorial choices then owning up to this big story. He stepped in do-do last year and proceeded to blame everyone else instead being a man and taking responsibility.

  11. Bolsa Guy says:

I’m surprise the square head AQ can drink :) DUI and a black S550 Mercedes-Benz make him a real man? Step up with a hot babe, Andy: represent our manhood – our local council man. Unlike the Little Saigonists, the Big Korean Christians – Kim something – are always generous with praying for you… So do I: I pray for you to be a real man to lead us “into a light pole” :)

  12. So What! says:

Throw him in jail, stupid IDIOT……..

  13. Mr. T says:

Good move for not taking a breath test. Those things are not accurate if not cleaned properly after each use. I’m sure Andy’s blood alcohol level dropped considerablily by the time the police took the blood test at the station.

  14. sonke says:

Mistake happens to anybody and everybody. One slip of poor judgement, you will face the consequences. Let’s see how things are unfold.

The blood test move is a very “smart” move hoping to buy enough time for “salvation”. Either a phone call to the Captian, police chief or maybe somebody from the “right wing” of the station recognize the good Coucilman and who knows…….what happened? …….But ……nahhh……these are all speculations. Let’s wait to see what will happen next!!

  15. Art Pedroza says:

What if Andy had killed another Angels pitcher?

  16. Sioc says:

Just wait for the test result. What if he didn’t drink at all, but he was watching porn on iPhone when driving …. kakaka

  17. Lou Ciffer says:

It was a commie and commie’s sympathizers’ s plot for sure
They can’t silence him so they arranged for a light pole to jump in the path of a car manned by our elected leader , the honorable council-man AQ
Calling on all the patriots , let’s have a protest on Bolsa Ave to bring awareness to the present of the commie agents in our Viet community , after that , a candle light vigil and prayer for the quick recovering of the Hon. AQ
    BYOB, btw

  18. Jung Kim says:

Bolsa guy, you needed to be led to a light pole?

You can follow my puppy after her dinner time…….. do you know how to squat?

  19. Jung Kim says:

I think this is a good lesson for our viet men…… we need to cut down on drinking period!

  20. Anh Ba says:

I think the Vn communist agents were chasing Andy. I think they drug him at the party. Andy can use these excuses to apply for permit to carry concealed weapon.

  21. Art Pedroza says:

Is it true that Van Tran was in the car with Andy?

  22. Jung Kim says:

No Anh, look at your face…you need to apply for a special license to walk around in the broad day light with your ugly commie cong face. Conceal it with ski mask idiot!

  23. Billy Black says:

    @Anh Ba:

Ditto. Either VN communist agents chasing AQ or AQ chasing wood! Hahaha.

  24. Joe Jackson says:

Wait until the three people go home and find themselves an ambulance chasing attorney like VT, and then we will find three injured individuals. Just maybe VT may put his law degree to good use. Chasing down communist agents does not require much education and training.

  25. Viet Driver says:

    1…Asians + driving = Beware
    2…Asian + Viet + driving = Stay clear
    3…Andy Quach + driving = Big Crash

  26. Drunk driver says:

Andy, don’t blame the alcohol for the crash, man. Admit it, the combination of you lacking the skills to commandeer a vehicle and the MB being too powerful for you to handle.

One more thing, the large powerful and expensive MB substitutes the little worm down there…

Hahaha…it’s all good bro. It could have happened to anyone, but since it’s you and you being who you are, take your lumps like a man, not girlie man. Hahaha.

  27. Westminster PD says:

HQ: Attention all officers, there has been a reported crash involving Andy Quach. Approach with caution, he is driving while Asian under the guise of being drunk. Pursue the matter with utmost sensitivity because Asian drivers usually cannot reach the pedals in vehicles.

If you see wood blocks attached to the bottom of his shoes, do not stare and include in the accident report. Remember, he is one of our crony councilman.

  28. Commie Chaser says:

Where’s VT when this event was taking place? Had he been there, he would have pistol whipped that electric pole with his concealed handgun…hahaha.

  29. Bill Lambeer says:

Paul did not step on do do; he ate it for that sort of mistake. So, he’s not a Trannie but a ding dong in whatever form you understand it.

  30. anonymous714 says:

i witnessed this accident while driving to a friends late saturday night/morning… took out the power of the whole block. He was definitely drunk or had some to drink. there’s a restaurant on brookhurst and mcfadden called citryst he usually dines and wines at, so my guess, which is probably the most accurate one, is that we left that restaurant, drove west on mcfadden and then hit into a light pole.

one night i happened to see Andy and his buddies eating and drinking at citryst. I asked the waitress if he comes often and she said that he comes, eats and drinks, orders to-go, and then leaves WITHOUT EVER PAYING. sounds pretty corrupted to me

  31. So What! says:

Wonder after 10 days with test result come with positive,
what’s the city do with him?

  32. Art Pedroza says:

Who will replace Quach when he steps down from the Council?

  33. Jung Kim says:

So What, just got here? You pay the ticket from the court and if test result is positive he will need to attend some classes. That’s all folks.

  34. ocpolactivist says:

    @anonymous:
Police revoked a police permit for Cytrist. AQ referred Cytrist to an associate of his, attorney Bart Kasperowicz who helped Cytrist regain the permit. That is how he gets to eat and drink free there? By the way, AQ did not wine and dine at Cytrist the night of the accident. He got drunk somewhere else. Witnesses saw the S550 caught a small fire. The MB might not be his however.

@So what: AQ had been drinking with his “buddies” before the crash. I am sure they would help him beat this ticket just as the 100 miles per hour ticket was dismissed in Seal Beach.
