Apparently having learned a lesson from Andy Quach‘s false denial, his fellow member on the Westminster City Council Tyler Diep (pictured) decided to come clean on an issue 
that has not even been made public yet.
In today’s issue, Diep speaks to a reporter of Nguoi Viet Daily News (not the Bolsavik) and apologizes for his involvement in stopping an investigation of a Little Saigon drinking hole.
The events took place in February 2009, two months after Diep took office. In his public apology, Diep states that as a new council member, he was still “inexperienced” and did things he shouldn’t have.
The watering hole at issue is Citryst, at Brookhurst and McFadden. On Nguoi Viet, the owner said her place is not a “bar.” Obviously, whether something counts as a “bar,” or a “pub,” or just a plain old whatever you call place where people go to get drunk, is all in the eye of the beholder, and the Bolsavik doesn’t consider it an issue.
What happened was that Citryst was investigated by the Westminster Police Department, so the owner called Diep and asked him to do something about it. So he did.
He called the investigating officer. Then he came to see the officer in the police department on a night when the officer, Sergeant Tim Vu, was watch commander. Then he came to see the big boss, Chief Andrew Hall.
Depending on who you’re talking to, Diep was either trying to tell the police to leave Citryst alone, or as he says, he was trying to ask questions to determine what’s going on. Or something in between.
Anyway, the conversations between Diep and the sergeant was recorded on audio.
Everyone will get a chance to see if Diep was just asking questions, because apparently the Register has a copy and Diep knew it.
So Diep apologized first, hoping to head off any fall-out.

I think it was a proper action…. as a city councilman, he sould be able to find out what is going on within the city limit.
What a pathetic joke Mr. Tomahawk is. Tyler and Andy should both resign to save face for the entire Viet community. They are an embarassment and disgrace. It will be interesting indeed to hear the nature of the conversations between Tyler and the Westminster PD because for Tyler to say that he should be given a free pass for what amounts to interfering with law enforcement investigation of a possible criminal violation smacks of the corruption and shenanigans going on in Vietnam. Their leadership (along with Godfather Van) is more suited in the banana republic of Hanoi than in Little Saigon.
Tyler and Andy should both resign. Both have done nothing for the community beside hanging out at bars at night (sometime daytime) and picking up girls. Diep once declared he will be the next VAN TRAN in the community. He thinks he’s the boss of WPD and can do anything he wants. Diep will be worse then Andy if he continue to hold power.

I don’t buy Diep’s excuse. He was “inexperience”. I remember back in the 80′s Viet gangsters used to collect “protection fee” from business owners in Little Saigon. Now they call themselve friends or consultants of the owners so they can eat free.

I was wondering if Andy Quach helped Citryst’s owner obtaining her liquor license. I think Diep is just a little kid who is hungry for power. I think the 3 viet council are a joke. Just watch the council meeting on TV, you will see what I mean.
You can’t use the phrase “ugly politics” for no reason. New details emerge in DUI arrest showing one piece of evidence that politics is just a profession for ugly people, and I don’t use that word loosely just for a port-wine stain on the forehead.
Sometimes “sorry” just doesn’t cut it. That’s nice. However, just because the guy apologizes doesn’t mean he’s any less of a whack job than all those sleazy nut bags who are freeloading on the restaurant.

It’s not a simple answer. Not long ago, Viet voters discovered a little-known fact about the guy – he has never been shy about spewing trash. You can’t advocate for something you wouldn’t do yourself. So, the sanitation district would be where his actions reflect his words. Voters didn’t do anything wrong. They possibly not realized that the young, dumb kid has grown up so fast, and apparently without any moral instruction.
But now, voters don’t have to buy into this crap. This guy is irredeemable and he really must go.
By now we all know that the scandals occur regularly enough to set our alarm clock.
And, hey, we could call it “a perfect storm of assholes.”
I disagree, Tri Ta is a good elected official. He’s not controversial like his other colleagues. This guy is humble and always available to assist citizens when needed. For fact he doesn’t hang out at Citryst like Tyler and Andy. If you think Tri Ta is a joke, try watching the City Council Meeting with your eyes and ears open. If anyone think they’re a better city council member than run for office. I’m sure you will get at least one vote from yourself.
