Some takes for granted that Le (Lê) is Lee, that Asians are Chineses. Some even writes down Lee in place of Le on legal documents. And many have a so hard time pronouncing Nguyen (Nguyễn), almost struggling to death to say " Nei ...Eln ".
I wish that Americans were more sensitive. We are a diverse community, yet many hardly pronounce properly many other people names; even when their work involves providing services to those clients of theirs. That somehows shows some disrespect.

I heard it pronounced LEE on CNN and by the cops and everyone else, and it bugged the hell out of me. Then, a few days later they started pronouncing it right. I'm glad Leyna stood up for it. Represent!

I've heard it both ways. I think those who don't know just go with their best guess.
