The protest, an update

Last weekend was a slow day in the office, so the Bolsavik went around and took some pictures of the weekly protests outside of Nguoi Viet.

Here’s an update on what’s happening now. Every day, the protestors, usually about 4 or 5 of them, still come to Nguoi Viet and open the truck with the photos of former South Vietnam’s generals who died defending the country in the last days of the war. That’s the truck in the foreground.

On week-ends, though, they would come out more in force, each person would carry a flag and they would march up and down Moran Avenue. They would stop for a while at Bolsa, the main thoroughfare of Bolsavikland, and then march right back.

These protestors apparently are very adamant that people know there’s still a protest going on.

A few weeks ago, the L.A. Times ran a story by My-Thuan Tran, here, about the thriving Little Saigon media market. It contains a line about “ending the 18-month demonstrations.”

That little throwaway line turned out to tick off the protestors big time.

Viet Weekly, which has become something of an unofficial spokespaper for the protestors, devoted two whole pages to crapping about the story and saying, basically, “we’re here, we’re here, get used to it.”

The number of people showing up each week-end depends on whether there’s an event at the Nguoi Viet Community Room. There have been some week-ends where the room had a major event and the number of protestors reached as high as 15.

The photo to the right was taken when there was a seminar for people who care for family members with Alzheimer.

I think that bottom right photo is the damn fun place to have seminars for people who abuse their family members with Alzheimer.

  2. Bolsavik says:

Oops. Wrong pic. Fixed it now.

These welfare recipients should stage a protest in front of Red China Consulate. Or are they too afraid of them Chinese just like VN government?

They are my heroes….At least they are better than the so called “educated people in the community”

The sacred flag of the Republic of Viet Nam represents the ideas of freedom, justice, and humanity. By displaying it in an improper manner in an improper and abusive protest, the protesters have disrespected the flag as well as the ideas it represents. Those protesters in fact are serving the Vietcong’s interest.

On Little Saigon TV “Nguy Vu show” last Thursday, Uu-Dam Nguyen (uudam.net) went on a diatribe about how “the same Vietnamese people fucking each other under two flags” and suggested that “the condom is a suitable medium and object through which to address chauvinism, pride, and identity.” Half way through the show, the twits hit the fan and you could tell that people were really mad.

It wasn’t that long ago when Nguoi Viet ran a photo of a foot spa, which gave Viet Weekly enough material to eventually be able to survive the weak economy, and we all know how well that worked out.

Once these stories get out there, they’re hard to stamp out because the media do such a lousy job of speaking truth to stupid. They all sold on lies that were unchallenged or even abetted by the media.

That’s why it’s important to kill the errant bullshit before it has a chance to fester. This is not a case of loyalty versus freedom of speech. It’s the ignorant versus the cognizant; the profane versus the profound.

Never let a small group of losers to ruin the community.

Is there a better way to communicate our love for freedom?

This is getting little old for my taste.

Where is Ngo Ky ? I’m missing him badly !

  11. anonymous says:

HOT FAT MAMA!! DONT YOU KNOW THAT NGO KY CANNOT PROTEST AT NGUOI VIET ANYMORE. HE HAD NO MONEY TO PAY THEM FOR THE DAMAGES SO HE MADE A DEAL. THESE STUPID PEOPLE THAT ARE STILL PROTESTING JUST HAS NOTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO. THEY JUST NEED THE ATTENTION SINCE THEIR KIDS PROBABLY STRAIGHT UP INORES THEM

  12. Hot Fat Mama says:

    >NGO KY CANNOT PROTEST AT NGUOI VIET ANYMORE

Oh no! my dearest Ngo Ky. I used to make out with him in the Nguoi Viet alleys. I’m missing him … I gotta look for him.

  13. Ông cố nội says:

These damned fools are protesting that piece of shit Nguoi Viet for all the wrong reasons. What they should be protesting is the fact that this so-called newspaper is dying a slow death, which is just not fast enough.

  14. xu says:

Its only California Viets who protest like this….. you don’t see Vietnamese in Texas or other parts of the country protesting like this.

I think its a combination of the ‘Hollywood culture’ (ie hey look at me) that dominates California and California’s beautiful weather (these protesters don’t mind being outside enjoying the great weather).

I can almost guarantee you these protesters in California would not protest more than a few months in Texas…. they are too damn wimpy. They would eventually succumb to the heat and humidity.

  15. jose s. says:

geez xu you actually make a lot of sense there. to many of these communist filths our weather does make it pretty nice and cozy for them to disrespect our country and our freedoms in the warm sunshine of cali. they probably wouldnt protest in freezing weather either.
