A Vietnamese man successfully caught a hit-and-run driver in action sequence worthy of a stunt driver.
Hung Pham (pictured) gave chase, cut off and took the keys from a 17-year-old female driver who had kept going after hitting a pedestrian, reports KDAF-TV33 here.
The events happened around 7am this morning near Sam Houston High School in Arlington, Texas.
A 17-year-old girl was crossing the street when another 17-year-old girl hit her. Then the driver kept going.
“I can’t let them run,” says Pham. So he chased the driver a few blocks. And then, he blocked her car with his and made sure it couldn’t move.
Pham says, “I just crawled in the car and turned off the engine, and motor, and I take off her key and hold it in my hand.”
The TV station’s report notes, “Police say while they don’t generally encourage people stepping into what could be a criminal case, in this case, because the man didn’t put himself in any danger, they appreciate his help.”
The Bolsavik is not sure he agrees with the assessment that Pham did not put himself in danger. If the 17-year-old girl had been a drug mule with a firearm, we would be writing a totally different kind of story. Congratulations Mr. Pham, just be careful next time. Maybe just follow the girl and call 9-1-1 or something.
Anyway, Pham is happy he helped out. “I feel good about it,” he said.
The driver may be charged with a felony hit-and-run. The one who was hit, the police says she does not have life-threatening injuries.
This man made up for Tach Truong, who arrested for lewd acts in front of a 2-year-old (Bolsavik’s blog yesterday). So we are even now : one bad and one good.
Its 2 bads and 1 good.
You forgot Andy Quach.
I chased after a car a while back, the F*&^g driver was on drug and had a seizure …he had his car running on big circle, jumping over the median and hitting cars from both directions.
I had to break window on the driver seat, reached in, turned of the engine and wait until the cop arrived…
Sometimes doing nothing would lead to worst…how many times have you wondered what would have happened if all passengers on the airplanes fought back the terrorists before the planes hit the Twin Towers…. Well, it may still hit the ground or the Hudson river but the casualty would be much less.
May be, we, as Americans from all races, have become the ineffectual Elois in the Time Machine (H G Wells) live in a society which sneers at anyone who dare to step up to correct the bad the situation as their own responsibility.
30 years ago, I chased two Hispanic youths when I caught them trying to break in my car in a parking lot. With all the benefit of hindsight now, I would not chase people like I did. Maybe a family man’s mentality is now different than that of a single man. In one other incident, while driving in a car with my three small children, I saw two men fighting on street, one man was down and the other man continued to hit him. I made a risky decision by slowing down at the scene with all windows locked and honked the car horn continuously to annoy the attacker. The attacker stopped hitting the downed man and backed up. The downed man took this opportunity to run away. I then pressed on the gas pedal and sped away!
Wow…A good man we got here but……
Also to let everybody know about Texas, the great State of our past President Bush, so not to confuse since we are in California.
If that hit-and run driver just happened to be a Hispanic or Asian like him?..And the one who gave chase is a cute tall blond cowboy?..And the cowboy not only nice enough to reach in and take the car key but also pop the driver a few rounds of 9mm?…Guess what folks?..That cowboy will also be praised as a hero for getting rid of a criminal, making the street safer too..And if there s ever a trial?..He will be acquitted and might someday make it a Governor…..or do i sound like a racist?…
And i m not just playing guessing since i spent half of my life in Southwest and Belair area…So these are facts.
It wasn’t a smart move, next time just get the vehicle license number and call 911…
