Viet takes top honors at state photo contest

“Egret Dancing”

With this photo, My Phuong Nguyen of Burtonsville, Maryland won the Grand Prize in the 2009 Maryland Natural Resource Magazine Photo Contest.

The contest was run by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The photo, entitled “Egret Dancing,” also won her the First Place in the Wild Plants and the Birds categories, says the DNR in a press release here.

In the press release, the department also reveals that more than 300 photographers submitted nearly 1,500 photos this year.

    I saw some pictures like the above in the current of Popular Photography…may be hers as well.

    Bolsavik, next time, please include the camera model along with the lens, focal, and speed, like most photography magazines. Also include some sort of explanation why her picture/s were selected, so the reader has an idea.

    Has anyone tested the new Canon 7D? I hear it takes stunning pictures. The only “shortcoming” is that the image sensor is only APS-C (1.6X crop), not full frame. Regardless, I read that highest paying pictures are usually taken on smaller image-sensor cameras and stored under lower resolution file format (JPEG), and what people pay for are out of the norm subjects and content, involving traveling and action oriented.

    I have to say that these higher-end cameras take such beautiful pictures that take the viewer’s breadth away. They are that good. What also helps is a good lens.
