No sooner has a Vietnamese-American won a hard-fought election to the City Council of Houston that news of his victory was pushed off track to become fodder for right-wingers to crap against the BBC’s Vietnamese Service.
Al Hoang, better known by his Vietnamese name Hoàng Duy Hùng, won the Dec. 12 elections to represent District F on the Houston City Council. Election results here. The BBC, whose World Service provides news in 33 languages including Vietnamese, ran a story here proclaiming, “Anti-communist figure becomes council member.” Which pleased right-wingers plenty.
But then the BBC also ran an interview with Hoang, and allegedly the BBC wrote that “Hoang and his allies did not oppose the opening of the Vietnamese General Consulate in Houston.” That made right-wingers mad, and people such as this one attacked the BBC as being untruthful. The link provided by that person, however, did not contain that quote, though, so it is unclear what happened.
Nonetheless, even if Hoang did not say so in the audio of the interview, that statement is not too far from Hoang’s actual position. In an interview with Nguoi Viet here, Hoang said that even though he personally opposes the General Consulate, he thinks having the communist diplomatic mission in Houston does have some benefits for the city.
Which is kind of like politicians who say they personally oppose the death penalty, or abortion, or whatever, but there are benefits to those. Potato, potatah.
In the meantime, the attack on the BBC spluttered. There were some talk of sending protest letters to the station’s CEO, and there were emails asking for the CEO’s contact information. Now, if a protestor is unable to find information displayed prominently on the target’s web site, the expectation is that the protest won’t last too long, if it even materializes at all. Or “materialises” – as BBC types would spell.

To be fair to HDH, he was pointing out pros and cons of opening the Vietnamese General Consulate in Houston. He then concluded that there were more cons than pros so he againsted it.
HDH must have paid those shite kicking knuckleheads for votes ’cause their head is as thick as concrete and as racist as h*ll. When y’all see a red neck ’round the corner, be prepared for some trouble because it’s in their genes to talk and act as stupid as stupid can be…
jose at it again…. ***rolls eyes***
Is Hoang a “which way wind is blowing…” politician ?
N, was he talking to 5yr old audience? Give me a break! A spineless weak man.
After reading the Nguoi Viet interview with Hoang Duy Hung, I am very sure that he wanted to highlight direct economic benefits for Houston from trades with Vietnam, while citing some vague concerns about possible security problems.
* Mr. Hoang Duy Dung resorted to the typical politician’s double talk. He has something for you, which-ever side you are on.
Like I have said, this guy has “which way is wind blowing today?” attitude.
Re-citing Hoang Duy Hung :
“Một năm nhập cảng biết bao nhiêu đồ của Việt Nam là hơn cả trăm triệu, rồi xuất cảng sang Việt Nam cũng từ cảng Houston. Ðó là những cái lợi”
His “past anti-communist rhetorics” contradict with his current actions of supporting Hanoi Regime.
Hoang Duy Hung’s magic “more cons than pros” formula :
Hundred of millions dollar for pro-Hanoi trade, or a few possible criminals for cons.
His twisted logic seems to to be more PROS than cons.
Do we have another dirty political leader here?
Attention all Viets:
It is a Vietnamese tradition : anti commie leaders will turn coat any day for a buck.
Hoang Duy Hung has been milking Vietnamese community for years; now he is turning pro-Hanoi for more cash.
Don’t these protest-hardened warriors know that we’re living in the age of diminishing natural resources and fossil fuel? Those protest letters are just gonna end up in some British trash can the moment they are receive? And that would be just a waste.
Other ethnicity refuses to state their position. When presses, they dance around the answer. Why should HDH, unless it is an important issue? Why do Viets have to take a stand on everything and get ripped by lesser candidates? We end up losing good Viet candidates.
right wingers are ignorant fools.

You hate their craps and want to clean this blog … but so far, you put out a bunch of crap yourself. Crap is crap. Most people don’t sweat at small stuff. But when you think of yourself a little seriously, put yourself in high horse and looking down judging people, you get my attention and my curiosity – the kind of curiosity that monkeys bring visitors to the zoo.
Easier said than done? Don’t be shy. You must do what you advocate. Fair enough? The clock is ticking!
To thoughtless person:
Your name said it all “thoughtless”
Can’t you see I was reporting the news without comment of my own?
You need to excercise your brain a little bit, thoughtless person!
