Just as the Bolsavik finished talking about how OC GOP voters usually don’t think carpetbagging is such a big deal, lo and behold a GOP bigwig proved the Bolsavik right.
The OC Weekly (here) has the story about how Assemblyman Van Tran squeaked by first-time candidate Quang X. Pham for the California Republican Assembly endorsement for the CD47 race. He did it by having his chief of staff – a resident of Sacramento – vote out of the Stanton chapter.
If it weren’t for the carpetbagger, there would have been no endorsements.
The Weekly quoted Tim Whitacre, the group’s parliamentarian, as saying CRA bylaws allow a member to join “any branch he wants to join regardless of where he lives.”
So there you have it. Party activists sanction carpetbagging. That’s why it’s no big deal.
Personally, the Bolsavik believes there’s a method behind this madness – that there’s a reason for allowing carpetbagging. Unlike the GOP as a whole, the CRA is the conservative wing of it. The party as whole may want to win races above all; the CRA may be unwilling to sacrifice ideology for the sake of victory.
If you want to win races, you may want to make sure the people voting on endorsements reflect the local electorate.
But, if you want to enforce a viewpoint, geography will have to take a back seat. Allowing activists to cast ballots where votes are needed is one way to prevent any one particular chapter from veering too far off the ideological line.
@ the marine, you’re anything but real. If Quang is putting himself first and only himself is because he’s not endanger anyone else beside him. Being a business man I’m sure he’s fully aware of the risk and so is Van and Tan and Loretta and Cecilia. If everybody is afraid of losing then there wouldn’t be anybody running. Please do not try to distract away from Quang Pham jeopadizing the ultimate mission of defeating Loretta Sanchez, by bringing in Van Tran, who has the best chance of beating her. On the other hand, many military men have repeatedly told Quang Pham to put his ego aside and look for the common good by running for another office. It is as simple as that.
This man Pham has no discipline, no team ehtics, and no sense of sharing. He is selfish and self-absorbed. I doubt anybody is jealous of him. He is screwing up without knowing it.
