Controversy aside, the 2010 Tet Parade down Bolsa Avenue was fun, creative, helped by good weather and a very smoothly working operations staff.
Enjoy the photos. Some are by Duong Dong.

This is the McGarvin Intermediate School marching strings band. The school itself is located near where the parade ends, on Bishop at little off of Bushard.
Lots of martial arts studios came.

This is the Viet Vo Lam group doing the form (kata / bài quyền).
Then, after they finished the form, the two kids in front did this demo:

The boy, bigger and taller, pushed the girl, and she hit him back with one of those things where she grabbed him with her legs and used the strength there to flip him over.
Slamming him on his back.
On asphalt.
Totally cool.

This group is the Trung Trinh Đường, and they marched with something like 4 or 5 lions, including this cub lion performed by a bunch of kids who look maybe 6 or 7. Photo by Duong Dong.

This group of hogs call themselves, rather obviously, V-Hog. Note the old-style Viet khăn đóng on top of their helmets.

And then the Bolsavik saw these Board members of the Vietnamese-American Chamber of Commerce running down the street. The Prez Dr. Tam Nguyen (right) explained that their Jeep broke down.

All hail the Queens! To the left is the newly crowned Miss Vietnam Southern California, Truc Vy Le (Lê Hoàng Trúc Vy). To the right is Miss Vietnam Northern California, who won a few weeks ago, Caroline Vu (Vũ Thị Minh Thùy). Photo by Duong Dong.

Politicos came out in droves, but here’s something you don’t see every day. In fact, the vehicle is the type you wouldn’t see at all on the streets of the USA: Phu Nguyen, state Assembly candidate, took his wife and kid to parade with him on a xích lô / pedicab. Photo by Duong Dong.
Bolsavik,
Did you ever or do you plan to do a write up on the guy who wrote the report for CARB? This guy who is Vietnamese has a fake degree from an online university ran by a convicted pedohile. Are you going to do a report on that
Also, where can I get one of those pedicabs? It looks really cool and would be real fun to ride on the board walk by the beach with the lkittle woman and the kids.
Correction Bolsavik! The other queen pictured is Miss Vietnam of Northern California–Intercollegiate.
Com on nhieu =D
Nice pictures!
Oh. My. God.
Phu, Phu, Phu!
First of all, from many polls, most Viets claimed to be Republican and that’s also true for Little Saigon. To my knowledge, Jim Webb was the only Democrat that showed off a Vietnamese wife and actually won the senator race in Virginia, and that was because of Obama momentum. Recently, the Democratic party’s strategy to go after young Viet voters generation did not turn out with luck and Martha Coakley managed to fumble away Kennedy’s seat.
Additionally, some Viets are just absolutely in a bad mood these days. More recently, the “moral and values” members of different denominations have called for a boycott of the Tet parade, and were asking other Viet Catholics to do the same. They are like a toddler having a temper tantrum and will likely throwing a shit-fit if you don’t do exactly what they want. Coming from a strong Catholic background, by and large, you pretty much need to get Viet-Am Catholics voters excited. Are you out of your mind?
Moreover, like most people who are either self-confident or radically insecure, Viet-Star DoVinh has just thrown his hat into the ring. Did you know he was the second-best vote getter last election?
That’s called triple whammy!
Bad, bad, bad!
Hello, that was without a doubt an interesting read. I had actually been searching for a photo printing related post for a while now. Thanks! I have a similar blog, how much do you charge for advertising? because I can’t seem to locate the information anywhere.
” As our readers may also recall, Dovinh made a joke out of himself in 2008 when he ran for two offices at the same time, Midway City Sanitary District Board and Coast Community College District Board of trustees. After the election, Mr. Dovinh was heard boasting on Vietnamese radio that he got the highest number of votes of any Vietnamese candidate other than Van Tran. Well as Bolsavik pointed out, Dovinh reached his magical numbers by combining the votes of both races that he lost into one total. Yeah right, go with that. “
