Gen. Nguyen Cao Ky (left) and Gen. Nguyen Van Thieu (center) at the first anniversary of their 1965 military coup, a day they made into South Vietnam's Armed Forces Day.
The military coup that ended the last civilian government of South Vietnam was honored by the Costa Mesa City Council at their regular meeting last Tuesday night.
The date, June 19, was the Armed Forces Day of South Vietnam, so named to honor the anniversary of the installation of the military government of the Republic of Vietnam, headed by Gen. Nguyen Cao Ky and Gen. Nguyen Van Thieu.
The previous civilian government was under Head of State Phan Khac Suu and Prime Minister Phan Huy Quat, who had been installed by the military in the first place. In 1965, when the military imposed a new charter in place of the Constitution, Head of State Suu resigned in protest.
That protest didn’t quite work out as planned. Claiming the resignation was voluntary, Generals Ky and Thieu took over the government.
On June 19, 1965, the new military government was sworn in, with Ky holding real power as Premier and Thieu as figurehead President. (That would later change, when outmaneuvered Ky to gather power into his hands.)
Starting the next year, 1966, the day was named the Armed Forces Day (“Ngày Quân Lực” in Vietnamese). In the top photo above are Ky and Thieu at the 1966 parade honoring the first anniversary of their rule.
And by the way, Ky is now accused by some of being a commie and a turncoat, after he returned to live the rest of his old age in Vietnam.
And in the photo to the left are former members of the South Vietnamese military who came to the Costa Mesa City Council meeting to hear their coup anniversary honored as a Remembrance Day by the council. They may or may not have been involved with the coup, but who probably fondly remember the days when the country was in military hands.

What an idiot Bolsavik is. Period! Regardless of what led to this date, the date June 19 is acknowledged by all south Vietnamese as the Armed Forces Day. And every year since its inception, even after 1975 in all Vietnamese communities overseas, it had been commemorated.
You, Bolsavik, are so ignorant. I wonder if you are a Vietnamese or not. And I wonder why you’re so hatred against the Vietnamese. So that a sacred day as this date is joked upon by an idiot like you. One day you will be sorry for your acts because your children when they grow older they will learn that they have an idiot and ignorant man that they call dad.
this hilarious! Everything seems to happen right around election time doesn’t it? Just like DUMB DINA and her boy toy Andy Quack the DRUNK, since her miserable attempt at the supervisorial seat 2 years ago, they were no where to seen in the community, just months before the election and NOW we see the two lovebirds team up once more to get their face back in the news. By calling for the community to help them feed the homeless!!! WHAT A JOKE!!! Who do these two think they are fooling?
they are so FAKE it makes me want to puke!!!
A SLUT AND A DRUNK, HOW APPROPRIATE.
thiet la ban thiu;
YOU ARE THE IDIOT! THE COUNCIL MEMBERS OF COSTA MESA FAILED TO CHECK THE FACTS!!!
THEY ARE HONORING A MILITARY COUP!!!
THEY WILL SOON FIND OUT HOW THE VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY FEELS ABOUT THEM HONORING A MILITARY COUP. NO DIFFERENCE THAN HONORING NGUYEN CAO KY OR THIEU.
Who tell you, the Armed Forces Day of South Vietnam, “so named to honor the anniversary of the installation of the military government of the Republic of Vietnam, headed by Gen. Nguyen Cao KY and Gen. Nguyen Van Thieu.”???
If you don’t know, shut up your mouth, the DIRT RAT.
Shame on you !!!
It seemed to me the City of Costa Mesa City Councils are out of touch, and uneducated.
OR, they are following the steps of the Bell city in Los Angeles.
They tried to send the wrong messages, and ill-facts.
Those military generals, Thieu, and Ky are the disgrace of VN, and the reasons for
VN to fall into the Communist hands.
The former President Ngo Dinh Diem is the patriot, and the one remembered by
all VNese who have lied under his presidency.
Thumb down for the City of Costa Mesa for their stupidity, and idiot as they know nothing about Vnese, its history, and the leaders.
Ngo Dinh Diem was a an election thief, a dictator, a Catholic extremist with Buddhist blood on his hands, just like his brothers Ngo Dinh Nhu and Ngo Dinh Can. I’m glad they all got shot.
What I would like to know is who initiated this resolution? We got a bunch of dumb ass in Costa Mesa that thinks they KNOW what we want. I am assuming they are waiting for the Viet community to show our appreciation… Nguyen Cao Ky is a disgrace to the Vietnamese community, young and old. Now the idiots in Costa Mesa wants to honor these crooks that came to power by organizing a coup?
does any one know the mayor over there? Please call him if you do and ask whose advising him on this? ANDY QUACK the drunk, DINA THE CROOK (SLUT, DRUG DEALER, HOPE WRECKER or whatever floats your boat) or VAN TRAN whose wife was charged with insurance fraud?
I just did some research, Allan Mansoor the mayor of Costa Mesa is currently running for State Assembly. Its safe to assume he’s doing this to get the Viet’s votes, unfortunately, this STUPID MISTAKE will actually cost him some serious votes.
He acts like Trannies to me…. if they look like a trannies, acts like a trannies, they must be a trannies!!!
Is Viet Shame barking like that dog Bo May? Someone should shoot the both of them with rabies shots for rabid dogs like Bo May and Viet Shame. Dogs and snakes like them. Ha ha ha!!!
Thieu, Ky, Diem, Ming, Giap, Duong….are the old war relics.
They are gone, their times were way past midnight. I have no grudge nor pride to hang their names on. After all it was the past of a cursed history.
Old viet folks in the US should let it go, their children don’t care much about this vague date of an unknown history and naturally so.
I would commemorate the no name soldiers who have died on the battlefield with my own conscience in my own private moment of reflection.
Let it go folks, you are in America now. Be well.
Minh (correction)…
Viet Shame,
Allan Mansoor kicks your fat buddy Democrat ass. Chalk that one down for the Trannies. It’s done Viet Shame. Now go help wipe Loretta’s behind. She needs your help.

Hey Viet Hater Pedroza,
Who’s gonna vote for the pirate commie money exchange mogul
Phu Nguyen? No hands? Oh Bo May can’t raise his claws. Mansoor wins.
Mansoor is not Arturo ……… Masoor wins his elections.
Please do not vote for any more dirty Viet politician into our government system especially that pirate look a like Phu Nguyen. How can you trust anyone with a face like that not mentioning the fact that his whole family is dealing business with the communist government. Just imagine giving this guy more power it’s like pouring more oil into the fire. Don’t be naive people!
Armed Force Day is the day to honor all South Vietnam soldiers who fought for the freedom of the South Vietnam, not ” to honor the anniversary of the installation of the military government of the Republic of Vietnam, headed by Gen. Nguyen Cao Ky and Gen. Nguyen Van Thieu”
The title “Costa Mesa honors Vietnam’s military coup” is purposely mislead.
By who and for what reason?
I think you all know!
Bo May,
Never ever, forget your past, because it is a prelude to the present and tuture.
Why be ashamed of the sacrifice of the South Vietnamese armed forces, which lost nearly 300,000 servicemen and women? They fought and spilled blood along side the US military for decades so that you can live comfortably in this country without fear of a commie flag planted on top of your head.
Thank you Costa Mesa and thanks to the leadership of the next Assemblyman from the 68th district, Mayor Allan Mansoor.
I commemorate the 300,000 service men and women and about 1,000,000 civilians who die during the war om my own with my own conscience in my own private moment of reflection.
I do not want to be a part of a pandering vote whoring trick by the politicians.
Allan Mansoor is doing a good job as mayor.
Bo May,
Different strokes for different folks. Fine if you wanted to do things privately. Sure doesn’t look like those Viet vets sitting here mind doing it publicly.
Politicians pandering for votes? It’s like you saying human shouldn’t eat food for survival. No duh!
Good job Mayor Mansoor! Keep pandering to the best of your ability. That’s what good and skillful elected politicians do. You have my support and you will be my next Assembly person!
Good job Mayor Mansoor. Keep pandering th
alan mansoor is a brown nose idiot. Licking the asses of Vietnamese just to get our votes.
and only the likes of douche bags like Junk Kim and his right wing extremist low class morons would vote for Mansoor.
Take a look at whose in support of Allan Mansoor!!! All the usual suspects that usually barks and bites on behalf of the Trannies are now barking at those that oppose what the City of Costa Mesa is doing. I see Trannies written all over this resolution. Its another tactic to get votes from the Viet community. SHAME ON YOU TRANNIES!!! Or should I congratulate you on your new prey, the Mayor of Costa Mesa. It’s shocking to see the TRANNIES still be able to hook another puppet. I was undecided a few weeks ago, BUT now that i know who this Allan Mansoor is being controlled by, he’s definitetly NOT getting my VOTE nor will he get any of my family or friends VOTE. WE ARE TRYING TO DO AWAY WITH ALL THE TRANNIES AND CLEAN UP THIS TOWN!!! Too bad for this Mayor Mansoor, he could’ve gotten a lot of support from individuals that were undecided…
Mr. Mayor, if you are reading this, DISTANT YOURSELF FROM THE TRANNIES AND YOU MIGHT STILL HAVE A CHANCE!!! You dont’ know how much we DISTRUST the Trannies do you?
i am a republican but I’m nothing like the Trannies or their puppets… I normally vote for Republicans but I would rather support the lesser of the two evil… i am giving my vote to PHU NGUYEN although i don’t really trust that guy or believe that he will improve anything, I WOULD NOT SUPPORT A TRANNIES’ PUPPET.
I am hoping that the people of Westminster have wised up and will take advantage of this comming election to get rid of corrupted elected officials like ANDY QUACK and TRI TA. In about two years time, we will have the opportunity again to GET RID OF THE LAST AND THE THE MOST CORRUPTED OF THEM ALL, TYLER DIEP MIEN TRUONG.
I encourage all voters to think long and hard before you support this ALLAN MANSOOR. IF CAN’T TRUST ONE TRANNIES, YOU CAN’T TRUST THEM ALL.
Guess who Mansoor said approached him to request for the resolution to be introduce to council members of Costa Mesa? the INFAMOUS nguyen phuong hung! The unemployed, loud mouth thug, hired by the Trannies to be their barking dog during Dina Nguyen’s campaign (supervisorial) and paid for by Van Tran to do what it takes to take over the Radio spot previously held by DO SON because Do Son was openly criticizing Van Tran and his henchmen about their questionable activities and how they terrorize the local community because some supports Janet Nguyen (in general if you don’t support them, you are their enemy).
Nguyen Phuong Hung is the cause of many problems in this community. Main stream Americans don’t know that’s why they were fooled by him.
The Viet community is trying to stay away from him now. How stupid is Mansoor for using a thug like Nguyen Phuong Hung to do something like this. Its a mockery to our community and I suggest for Mansoor to get some real advise from those that really knows this community. Ask people like Joseph DoVinh, Hao Nhien, Do Dzung or any active member of the community. They will tell him how much he’s hated around here. He’s nothing but a low life and a thug!!! He would do anything to get a bit of press. Mansoor, you’ve just offended more than HALF of the people in this community.
DoVinh would have been the perfect choice for assembly, too bad he didn’t have much money to run an effective campaign. Imagine how many more votes he would’ve gotten if he’d spend half as much as Phu did?
MANSOOR IS CLEARLY VAN TRAN’S MAN!!! Its shocking to find out that he actually work with a thug like Nguyen Phuong Hung. Not very bright is he?
The timing of introducing this resolution is questionable!!! why now?
ITS ALL FOR THE VOTES!!!
MANSOOR NO MORE!!!
@ Hurray for Costa Mesa:
So…you let Mansoor use the sentiment of the death of 300,000 men and women who die during the Viet Nam War as a ploy for his own political gain?
What is wrong with Mansoor being pro viets?
Jealous idiots need my BIG dog to fill in small holes again.
Allan Mansoor has strong followings in the assembly district.
Old viet folks, not the young’un, would go and vote to anyone who banter to their sentiment of the old war past and vote for them without thinking, even after these politicians have proved that they are just a bunch of incompetent public servants.
so jung kim what do you think about the tran camp contacting gustavo arellano for his vote?????
Mansoor is in for a real treat now!!! Nguyen Phuong Hung is the most useless member of this community. He’s worst then CRAWLERS. He’s known as a BARKING DOG FOR RENT in this community. As long as he gets something out of it (money or press coverage) he will do anything and I mean ANYTHING for you.
What a moron this MANSOOR is.
I am telling you, he’s A TRANNIES’ PUPPET!!!
This is w the Trannies operates, don’t you get it by now? Between Van Tran and his croonies, they’ve passed so many of these useless resolutions I’ve lost count. They have no substance, no real talents and they don’t really care where -this acommunity will be a decade from now. All they care, is how they can dig deep in your pocket for the money that they need to do their dirty deeds. Everything that they have ever done for this community is ALL SYMBOLIC! NOTHING MORE.
C. Vo, another rejected Trannie wannabe…… are you calling everyone who supports Mr. Van Tran a trannie?
Then we must have million trannies reside in this state.
And you missed the cut! Idiot Vo!
jose idiot, now all Latinos are trying have their pictures taken with Mr. Van Tran.
All pro business Dem. voters are embracing Mr. Van Tran with open arms.
An anti Washington, Independent voters are also supporting Mr. Van Tran!
Hard core Dem voters are evenly split between Loretta and Cecilia Iglesias …… Cecilia was successful in gathering more than whopping 11000 signatures in Santa Ana region.
Poor Loretta!
SERIOUSLY JUNG KIM WHY WOULD THE TRAN PEOPLE CALL GUSTAVO ARELLANO LOOKING FOR VOTES?? IS HE GETTING SCARED?
jose licking Solorio’s butt, all major newspapers are calling Loretta the weakest incumbent in OC! Because she is losing her support base FFAST to Mr. Van Tran and her Latina competition Cecilia Iglesias.
Good bye Loretta!
but i wasnt asking you about loretta was i? or solorio or cici iglesias i was asking you “idiot guru of little saigon” why the hell was the van tran camp contacting gustavo arellano sniffing around his ass looking for votes? it’s pretty obvious arellano thinks van tran is a piece of shit why then would they be begging for his support? they werent pandering they were panhandling like beggars in the street. whats up with that jung kim?
Jose s.: I really admire Assemblyman Van Tran and his team taking it to the face of the enemy without fear.
Everyone knows that Gustavo is anti-Vietnamese. I hope Tran’s people call him repeatedly. Bug the Gustavo out of him!
Calling your political enemy is not a sign of fear, but a sign of strength. Gustavo is the on wearing, whining and using vile language against Tran on his post. Go All the way to unseat Loretta
you admire a liar and a cheat? what does that say about you? and just because people think badly of corrupt politicians who just so happen to be viets doesnt make them anti-viet.
I hope Van Tran’s people clog up his flamo Gustavo’s phone so that it would just exploded into his politically deaf ear. Call Gustavo’s phone a hundred times. Sure! Put the fear into this Racist Gustav.
No self respecting American or their parents would name their son “Gustavo”. Another Leftist Loser who likes to whine!
Jose s.: You must be talking about Loretta Sanchez and her sister Linda. Both sisters are corrupt and unethical!
Jose s.: I like the spunk that the Tran campaign team is taking it to his political enemy. That is a clear sign of confidence and strength. Good for Van Tran! Keep working the district. Van Tran will be a congressman in November!
What is this place?
I find it interesting that the SVN flag wavers chant the mantra of “freedom” and “democracy” but the SVN people experienced neither freedom nor democracy during the VNCH regimes.
The VNCH flag wavers decry communist outrages whithout acnowledging that the government whose flag they are waving committed the very same crimes.
It is also a misnomer when people (usually non-Viets) talk of the “South Vietnamese Government” as if it was one continuous entity. It was rather a series of governments which changed with the wind as different factions launched coups and usurped power. From start to finish the South Vientamese governments were corrupt, brutal regimes which suppressed freedom and opressed and tortured their own people.
Any semblance of the SVN governments being “democratic” ended when the military junta dictatorships took power. The governments were puppets of a foreign power and did not represent the vast will of the Vietnamese people that their country be united. As Eisenhower wrote in his 1963 biography,
“I am convinced that the French could not win the war because the internal political situation in Vietnam, weak and confused, badly weakened their military position. I have never talked or corresponded with a person knowledgeable in Indochinese affairs who did not agree that had elections been held as of the time of the fighting, possibly 80 per cent of the population would have voted for the Communist Ho Chi Minh as their leader rather than Chief of State Bao Dai. Indeed, the lack of leadership and drive on the part of Bao Dai was a factor in the feeling prevalent among Vietnamese that they had nothing to fight for.”
It is particularly absurd when one sees a VNCH flag flying over Buddhist temples in overseas Viet communities. It was the fundamentalist Catholic Diem regime which brutally opressed the majority Buddhist population of Vietnam. The Buddhists fly a flag which represents the very people who oppressed them. Bizarre.
To all those VNCH flag wavers, please dont go around preaching “freedom” and “democrary” when the flag you hold represents neither principle.
