Monique Truong, the celebrated author of A Book of Salt (named by the New York Times to its list of “notable” books), is introducing her new novel Bitter in the Mouth, about a North Carolina Asian woman who discovers “the secret of her origins.”
Andrew Lam, an editor at New America Media, will discuss East Eats West, a book that’s part memoir, part observation on an Asian American’s experience assimilating into American culture. Lam, the son of a South Vietnamese vice admiral, previously published Perfume Dreams, a collection of essays.
After selected readings, a Q&A session with the authors will be moderated by UC Riverside Literature Professor Mariam Lam, and Ky-Phong Tran, a fiction writer who’s also an award-winning journalist.
The event is scheduled for 6:30pm – 9:30pm, Tuesday September 21, at the VAALA Cultural Center, 1600 N. Broadway #101, Santa Ana, CA 92706.
