Red-baiting did nothing to stop Lowenthal in Little Saigon

Alan Lowenthal was attacked as pro-communist in Little Saigon.

Apparently learning the wrong lesson from the elections around Little Saigon, a candidate for Congress tried to accuse his opponent of being, well, a commie.

This time, it didn’t work, not even in Westminster.

Proving that the 1950s never quite went out of style, Gary DeLong, a Republican running to represent the 47th Congressional District which spans from Long Beach to Little Saigon, mailed out a hit piece written in Vietnamese accusing Democratic candidate Alan Lowenthal of “open(ing) up the way for members of the Communist Party and their children/grandchildren to become teachers to generations of future Vietnamese Americans.”

Well, that’s not the point of this post. Read about the mailer here. The point of this post is whether the mailer worked, whether it got DeLong better results in Westminster.

Data from the OC Registrar of Voters provided the answer. As expected Lowenthal won but lost the Orange County part of the district.

But what about Little Saigon, where candidates had used the commie label to their advantage in the past?

Although he lost the race overall, DeLong won Orange County generally by 49,599 to 41,037, or 54.7% to 45.3%.

In Westminster, DeLong won by 8817 by 7294, or 54.7% to 45.3%. Exactly the same. Nothing added.

In the broader area covered by the Westminster School District, DeLong got 10274 to Lowenthal’s 8632, or 54.3% to 45.7%, actually a slightly smaller than the rest of OC.

In other words, no difference. All that red-baiting, and DeLong won exactly the same small margin in Republican Westminster as he did in the rest of Republican Orange County, failing to garner any added value for that loss of dignity.

Voters do not appreciate negative mailers in general….

Candidates should run on their own character and leadership experiences.

    Jose s.

Pulido whup ass, stupid. Your dog Benavides got his head handed to him. They are going to pass that no Viet commie law in Santa Ana.

Lowenthal won because he ran in a heavy Democrat majority district. Simple as that. He is suppose to win in California. The headline is purposefully misleading.

  4. Jung Kim says:

    You are correct!

District 47 Congressional District - District Total Voters — 358,906
    Democrats 151,927
    Republicans 111,809

    Party Advantage – Dem.

My dog benavides? Benavides is a f ing clown that whole council is but to show you what an idiot pilido is to pander to the lowlifes in the viet community who think theres a communist threat visiting oc. The threat is already here theyre just too stupid to see it. I just think its funny that pulido thought benavides was enough of a threat to go down that road.

  6. Jung Kim says:

However, all of us ……..enjoy living in non – communist state USA!

There is no real threat ….. but laziness in examining the communist dictatorship rule/lives with daily intimidation and incarceration of political opponents.

  7. Jose s. knows Commies says:
